Fun, Informative
This is a very well done and affordable look into pupl covers from the past with very informative historic info through each chapter. Really enjoyable with a format that allows great views of these old pulp covers. Well done. Great coffee table book to pick up and read in segments when you only have a few minutes.

Another fascinating, lushly-illustrated, retro media fanzine from Justin Marriott. 5 stars!
Every one of paperback and media maven Justin Marriott’s fanzines – THE PAPERBACK FANATIC, MEN OF VIOLENCE, PULP HORROR, SLEAZY READER and HOT LEAD – is a fascinating excursion into the realm of vintage paperbacks, typically featuring side trips into the related realms of mid-20th Century men’s adventure magazines, movies and TV shows. Issue 41 of Marriott’s flagship ‘zine THE PAPERBACK FANATIC is another amazingly cool, wide-ranging, well-researched, lushly-illustrated must-read for retro media fans. It includes articles about history of CONAN THE BARBARIAN paperbacks and comics, novels based on the BBC’s eco-horror cult TV series DOOMWATCH, the boundary-pushing “plantation pulps” inspired by the success of MANDINGO, novelizations of classic Australian films, a profile of top DOCTOR WHO writer Brian Hayles, an interview with paperback cover artist RAYMOND KURSAR, and more. The articles are chock full of interesting facts and trivia and high-quality, full-color illustrations. Like every fanzine Marriott publishes, THE PAPERBACK FANATIC: ISSUE 41 is both excellent and amazingly affordable. Highly recommended!

Congrats on another Fantastic Issue!
Justin Marriott - you've done it again! Another jam-packed issue of THE PAPERBACK FANATIC has arrived courtesy of Amazon Prime. As you know I am a sucker for international pulp and any publishing "behind-the-scenes" info I can get my hands on. This issue (41) is just what the Bastard ordered! Guys and gals - spend the $10 and get yourself ready for an eye-popping pulp paperback experience. Then, you can go back and get the rest of them - because trust me - you're going to want to! Congratulations, Justin!

Thought it was a book of Conan short stories. But no.
Wasn't what I expected

A delightful read!
Thoughtful and well researched articles about the history of various paperback series, printed well and with gorgeous photos of cover art. A feast for fans of the genre who crave background information on their favorites. The Conan article alone was highly illuminating and well worth the price of admission.

A Great Magazine
Every issue is a keeper -- and this one is no exception. A fantastic resource for fans of paperback pulp fiction.

Like a blog on paper
This is like a collection of blog posts laid out on a word processor. The amateurism abounds...from the misattribution of Frank Frazetta as the painter of the Mad Max book cover (p. 18), to the so-called proofreader not even knowing that the past tense of proofread is still just one word, not two.

Vintage paperback fun
I bought this full colour fanzine because of the article on Conan paperbacks but found the other articles fascinating. Since then I’ve bought other issues. One of the pluses are the reproductions of the covers of these vintage books. Great price too.
