DISAPPOINTED FOR LACK OF SUPPORT
I purchased this program with high hopes, buying two of the education editions and one full edition of painter x3. I have been trying for over a week to get support on how to register since the code that accompanied the program is not accepted on the corel site. I have called the numbers given on the site for support and just receive a written comment that they only sell the product; that I need to get into another site for support. I go to that site and it says I need to register to get help. Hello? Are they missing something in their delivery? I might be a great program but somehow for a beginner at this time it is a serious waste of time and money. I had high hopes and now in this program I have none. I hope no one else makes this mistake. There are other great art programs out there. The sad thing is neither my students nor I will get much help from this program and there is no return for opened CD programs. That information they are very clear about.

Be Careful -- X3 No Longer Supported by Corel
I opened this program a half dozen times last summer before I got side tracked by real life. Six months later I tried to use it but it kept crashing. I used the DVD "Repair" function to fix it, but it still crashes. Contacted Corel customer service today and was told they "No longer support X3." The best they could do was offer me an upgrade to Painter 2016 for $216. So now I have a useless piece of expensive software that I can't use and don't want to be extorted into upgrading. Very unhappy. Buyer beware, if X3 stops working you're on your own.

Photoshop User Review
I've been using Photoshop for years including CS6 (last year's version) and am proficient with it. I also use GIMP, Illustrator and Ink. What I like about Painter is that it is a nice middle ground between a program that adjusts pictures and a program that creates art.It is easy to use for anyone who has used any of the Adobe or open source art programs. The icons are similar to well known ones and the functionality is similar. Some of my fellow reviewers have talked about the great brushes and techniques that Painter has and I agree: it has a ton of great tools. But I'm not ready to replace Creative Suite yet (or even GIMP).Photoshop, Illustrator and GIMP, Ink all offer a ton more online support to add to brushes, textures, templates and even training than Corel has. And for me that is what gives them the edge. I was really impressed with this program and I wasn't expecting it to be so robust. It definitely held its own. But for a Photoshop user I'm more comfortable sticking with what I know and what I can get easy support online for.If you are looking for an art program this is a great - and comparatively cheap - program that has a ton of tools that will meet most people's needs. If you are an Adobe user then you will feel comfortable using this program too.

Does exactly what I wanted
I'm very pleased with this software (I'm not a previous owner). It has a large learning curve, but, there is a large community that can assist, and does. I started with You Tube videos (these are a great help) that got me started, and I've been exploring (trial-n-error).

Will not work with Windows 8.1
Nope....will not install on my surface 3 with Windiows 8.1. Their tech team was zero help. I will stick with Artrage. Be warned before buying this software for newer machines. Wasted money.

Corel Does it Again with X3..!
Love it..! I've just updated from Painter 11 and I love the new applications. The new apps will certainly add a new dimension to my work I'll update my review as I journey through X3.

I do like this program
I have a lot of friends who use Photoshop, and have found that while I can usually convert a technique from Photoshop to Painter- it doesn't work the other way around. When they ask me how I did a specific techniques, the tools are just not available in Photoshop to do the same thing. What takes a few steps and layers in Painter, takes a lot more work and steps in Photoshop. It does take a bit of time to become really comfortable with the program. But once you are comfortable, the variations possible make it a great product for digital artists. The brush tips, the patterns and shape tools make it easy to create an image from scratch. Working from a photograph, you can learn to make photo art that just pops.Next year, I plan to enter the digitally manipulated photo section in our state fair, and this is the program I'm using. Because it will do everything that I want it to.The tools are laid out well, and very intuitive. If you're an absolute beginner, then I do recommend trying some tutorials to get really comfortable with the tools and what they can do.My experience- I've worked in digital art and photo editing for my websites for the last 15 years using a lot of paint and vector programs. This is my favorite painting program.
