Space Ducks: An Infinite Comic Book of Musical Greatness Hardcover – May 1, 2012

Just what I ordered! It was a gift for my boyfriend who is an artist, wanted to get him something to inspire him and also make him laugh along the way. Most of the pages are full art, some are small 4x6 pictures which are still easy to read and get the full experience. I would have totally given this review a full 5 stars, the only reason I'm giving this 4 stars, is because the corners of the book are bent, all the pages are fine, but the cover and back are a bit damaged. But that's not going to stop My boyfriend or I from getting countless laughs from this awesome comic. Daniel Johnson, your a creative genius and your love and art lives on through this book. Thank you :)

I'd like to begin by saying that I am a huge fan of DJ, so my opinion is that of someone quite familiar with his work. If you too fall into this category don't waste another second reading this, just click "add to cart". The book is more or less a collection of related art put together to form a loose story of sorts. I was hoping for a more straightforward tale w/ DJ doing his best Jack Kirby/Stan Lee, but in the end I was quite pleased w/ what was produced. We get some great artwork, lots of laughs and plenty of Space Ducks firing some of the best weapons ever drawn at agents of Satan. As a fan you can't go wrong with this beautiful oversized hardcover. Hopefully more books from Daniel will be on the way as I would love to see something featuring Joe the Boxer or Vile Corrupt. While I write this I am reminded of how rare it is for an artist to honestly touch me emotionally, help me through a rough patch or put a genuine smile on my face...Daniel is certainly among the few and as a result my review is 100% biased...I will buy anything he puts out, but I imagine most of his fans feel the same way.

If you are a fan of all things Daniel Johnston, by all means order this now and proudly display it on your shelf, perhaps make an alter. Space Ducks is the mind of Daniel, and by now means is this story coherent or linear. If your child saw this book, do not buy it as it contains some material not suitable for children.

Bought this for my son's 44th BD, who is a Daniel Johnston fan. Read it first and loved it. You could spend all day just studying the artwork alone.

I purchased this as sort of a collecotr item. It looks great and I'm happy to hav it.

Amazing work from Daniel Johnston as usual. Excellent value for money. This is Daniel's first comic book, lets hope it is not the last.

So finally Daniel Johnston has his first published comic book.The prolific artist and musician has had a long love affair with comic books, evidenced by his many drawings of Casper the friendly ghost and Captain America in his artworks. This comic features another of Johnstons' artistic mainstays: ducks.Without trying to give the game away completely, this comic features the Duck species trying to save the universe from Satan. Pretty heavy topic.The artwork and structure of the book are sometimes truly surreal, and probably not always intentionally so.It feels, in a way, more like a collection of his single drawings that sort of work together in sequence and so often lacks clarity, and doesn't flow incredibly well.However, this is to be expected if you know the man. I wouldn't recommend buying this if you don't know about him as the chances are it would be a lot harder to get where he's coming from. All said and done, this is truly one for the fans.If you like his artwork and his sense of humour then you will get something out of this book.It is supposed to have an accompanying album, which does not come with the book. I was quite disappointed by this as I was looking forward to sitting down to read this with the album playing, as well as it being a bit cheeky to sell them separately.It also turns out at the moment that the album is only available in the USA and I have found nothing to indicate when it will be out in the UK or elsewhere.There is also an iPad app for the book with games which looks fun (if you have an iPad).
