Libertines - The Libertines - desertcart.com Music Review: Impossibly Better Than the First - Anyone who's heard The Libertines first album, Up the Bracket, can testify to just how awesome this band can be. Their first album was all but flawless, which is what makes it so unbelievable that they could follow it up with something better, but they did. As the relationship between singers Pete Doherty and Carl Barat crumbled, their music thrived, making for some of the best music in years. Gems include the superb album opener "Can't Stand Me Now", an epic of lost love that sounds like a call and response between the singers. Fans of the first album will recognize "The Man Who Would Be King" as something of a sequel to that album's "Tell the King". The album closes with "What Became of the Likely Lads", playing like an early eulogy for a band that knew it was doomed (they split shortly after the release of this album). Overall The Libertines self-titled sophomore effort is note for note every bit as good, if not better than their first album. This second album is more mature and melodic than their first, noisy classic, but it still perfectly captures the essence of the band. Review: Shoop Shoop de lang de lang de lang - Good follow up to - Up the Bracket.

A Great Band
There is not much to say beyond that this is a wonderful band. Their music is both true and honest right down to the gritty guitars and poetic lyrics. The extra DVD is nice but beyond the concert from Japan there is not anything really worth watching. Awesome band, awesome album!

Great album!
Second time buying this album. Had the cd back in the day. At least no one can steal the digital version from me!

Als Anspieltips kann man hier nennen: das mitreißende "Can't stand me now", das Gänsehaut produzierende "Music when the lights go out", das irgendwie an einen alten R.E.M. ...

Record is great quality and good sound. For fans of the later solo work /projects of Pete Doherty this Libertines album will fit right in.
