Entertaining story. Belit is an interesting character. Coloring is lacking.
Short Version: This comic tells an entertaining story about Belit, a prominent side character (love interest) in the mainstream Conan story. Belit herself is actually a very interesting and somewhat complex character, however the rest of the characters are flat and uninspiring. The artwork in terms of character design, style, and layout is actually pretty good, but the coloring is lacking and somewhat amateurish. Overall if you're a Conan hack and slash pirate fan, this is a pretty decent compliment to the overall lore of the characters. Rate it 7/10.Long Version: I went in to this, because I thought the gritty artstyle and subject matter would be a nice compliment to one another. Plus I've always had a soft spot for ivory-white superheroine characters. When I began reading the story, I was pleasantly surprised to find the overall tale was both entertaining and fun. I like stories that doesn't pander to a certain group (strong female empowerment, etc), and instead emphasize the strengths of the individual itself (regardless of gender or race). In the case of Belit, she is the prime example of a genuinely strong, cunning, and self serving individuals. She is riddled with flaws, which for you new writers out there is the secret ingredient to making a compelling and fun character. As I read it, I felt Belit herself was an amazing and interesting character. She comes off as unhinged, and so not only does that make her unpredictable, but also it grips me to the story in anticipation with what she'll do. In this respects, the comic succeeded well above what most others can claim.I only wish I could say the same for literally every OTHER character featured. One of the worst fates a writer can experience is when they create a plot with characters, and when presented to a reader they suddenly hear the reader admit "I couldn't care less what happens to these people." In the case of every other character (except for an older black father figure/family friend later in the series), their existence was two dimensional and lacking. A character that is prominent for 1/3 of the entire book suddenly dies, and it literally left no impact on me. In my eyes, I see that as a narrative failure. Even the main antagonist(s) proved to be weak beyond mention. I love Belit and her father figure. The both of them were interesting, and had a lot of promise in terms of their future installment dynamics, but all the other characters were ultimately pointless. The artstyle for the drawings, as well as the panel placement and plot flow, was pretty well done. It kept my attention, and often times the drawings fit the mood of the overall story. The sketching of Belit was mesmerizing, and I honestly like the particular artstyle used throughout this entire graphic novel series (for specifically Belit and her character/story/mood).What did not impress me was the lacking color work done throughout this book. You know those comics which used primitive adobe photoshop gradient filters to create the illusion of depth of color and blending? Nearly 2/3rds of this entire book has coloring work like this, and it causes the overall piece of art to suffer in my opinion. I say 2/3rds, because once you draw closer to the end of the book, the coloring suddenly jumps in quality, as if they suddenly began to try. It's still that same photoshop style, but it's used in a much more effective manner than a majority of the book. The varying quality for the coloring is jarring.Overall, if you're looking for a good story with at most TWO interesting characters, then I suggest buying this book and checking it out. The art style is unique and appropriate (even if it's not the most prettiest artstyle), but the coloring comes off as lazy and flat. I would suggest this book to anyone who is a big fan of Conan and the Conan lore, but a pass to general comic book fans, and artists looking for something to appreciate. My overall rating is a 7/10, and that is being generous. I am happy with this purchase, but wish they put a little more effort in the characters, as well as the coloring. If it's worth anything: I am not interested in purchasing any followup literature featuring this arc involving Belit.

Meh.......
Had high expectations for this series but it fell way short in my opinion. A child running a pirate ship?... I'm thinking not.Nothing like the Belit we all knew from the original conan series

meh
I found this series to be incredibly average and lacking in any true passion or depth. While I would not say the art and colors were bad, they definitely did not fit the tone or the character. Don't judge the book by the cover, because the covers are beautiful. For being a book rated as parental advisory, the artwork felt very YA. The whole series felt a little phoned in and made as something cranked out to cash in on Marvel's current Conan craze. I love the character and was expecting something glorious and that just did not happen. It was fun enough but not something I would be considering definitive. Of all the new Marvel Conan stuff, I enjoyed this the least so far.

Belit, the love of Conan the Barbarian
The love of Conan the Barbarian's life. This tells her early life story of how she grew up and became the strong woman she did. A fantastic graphic novel!

Age of Conan: Belit
