StarTech 8 port KVM
Works well and very handy to switch between 8 different computers. Causes a shift and slight bluriness to the video feed but serves the purpose I need very well.

Doesn't work
I've only had this KVM for about a week but it seems to be working great. I was able to use a wireless keyboard/mouse.THREE WEEKS IN - going from 5 stars to 1 star. This is insane. Every time I plug a different computer into the KVM, the picture will display during post but as soon as Windows starts it displays "Out Of Range" on a black screen. Some computers work, others don't. There's no rhyme or reason to it. I bought this to use on a repair bench where different computers are constantly being plugged in. Unless you are using this in a situation where you can set it and forget, save your money.

Great time/space saver
Does pretty much what you'd expect. Allows you to share one keyboard, mouse and montior between 8 computers. I like how they've designed it how there's only ONE VGA looking cable going from the back of the KVM unit to each computer. On the computer side, that same cable terminates into a USB and VGA connection. This reduces cable clutter and saves on space. If you need to extend your cable, use extensions on the VGA/USB end of the cable. The only con to this product is that it takes about one full second to switch between computers. Not a big deal. I didn't need to use the power adapter on the unit. Nor did I need to turn off all the computers/servers when attaching the cables.I currently only have 6 different computers connected on this unit. 3 of which are Windows 2008 servers, one networked DVR (Windows XP Embedded), and 2 Windows XP desktops.

Great support and great product
I spent no small amount of time on several long calls to Startech tech support before ordering. They had to work for this sale, for sure. They convinced me that this less expensive product of theirs would work best for me in my situation with my particular computers. This is an amazing improvement over the another brand unit that I will not name because it did serve me faithfully since 2003 or so and was still working when I replaced it.You do need more than one computer to really need this product, though. The cables are high quality but they are proprietary so you must use their cables to connect the computers. The KVM does not have individual USB ports for different computers. Their cables are very high quality with what looks like standard VGA on one end but has a VGA and a USB on the computer end. They must have used some kind of computer magic or something to cram the USB into the VGA style connector along with the USB on the KVM side. Also I had no problem using PS/2 keyboard and trackball with a converter (some converters work and some won't so take care with this). It also has lights on the front. I like that.

Great!
This is a great product, love the way it works with my servers. Would recommend it to anyone. I love the fact that it has one usb which plugs into your system and that gets both the keyboard and mouse working. It seems to work fine without the power adaptor. Just plug in the usb and it works.

Doesn't Pass Monitor Identification
Ok, it does work, and the single cable VGA/USB connections are nice.BUT .... The unit doesn't pass monitor information to the PC's that are connected, so the PC's can't tell what resolutions are supported. The KVM switch pretends to be a monitor, and you can only use resolutions in its pre-programmed list. Those are selected by a hot-key menu. The default is 1024 x 768 and you can set it higher, but you may find that it doesn't support the native resolution of your monitor ... if that's the case, you'll be stuck with a fuzzy picture. It's especially a problem in Windows 7, where the PC controls the screen resolutions you're offered. If I'd known this upfront, I wouldn't have bought it.

Works great iin theory, but not so well for me
I just got this. It works as expected. It switches between machines well, and I had no problem getting my keyboard and mouse to work with it. However, the initial joy of having a working KVM again was squashed today, when I realised I type too fast for it. At a more normal speed, it is still not able to capture all my characters. It has an option for speed of capturing key presses, but at the fastest setting it is still not able to capture everything. Another annoying thing is that it at times will repeat the character you just typed 10-20 times. Typing passwords that are invisible (as opposed to *) can be a pain as a result.I have only had this KVM for a day, so I expect to write more once I have tested it a bit further.PS! Don't forget to get cables for this one! It has audio-cables, but no KVM cables. I got these: StarTech.com 2- Inch-1 Ultra Thin USB KVM Cable (SVECONUS6)ETA: after some further testing I came to the conclusion that it was the combination of my keyboard and the KVM that was the problem for me, so I am returning this KVM.

Avoid like the plague, utter junk two times in a row both failed
Absolute junk. Prefect proof that you get what you pay for. We ordered one, it died the day we installed it - worked for about 20 minutes, then was totally shot. Returned, replaced with the same thing, and put it in place, and it worked at first. Unfortunately it's at a hosting site, so we are never there. Today was the first day to try to use it after the initial install, and again, totally dead and unusable. Except now we passed the return window so we're left with a $300 piece of garbage.Don't buy.
