JVC Mini DV Head Cleaner (Discontinued by Manufacturer)

When you are looking for a cleaning cassette for your camera, I have found it is best to use one that is made by a reputable company. I almost bought a "off-brand" cleaner (or at least a brand I had never heard of) at a store that sounds like "Video Hack". Luckily there was an opened item and upon examining it, I saw it consisted of a "feathery" brush in a DVC housing. The JVC MiniDV Head Cleaner was for sale at the big yellow and blue electronics store for $34.99. This is too much to pay for a simple cleaning cassette. I purchased one on Amazon and it worked perfectly. This review will be similar (if not identical) to the other MiniDV Head Cleaner because I purchsed one for each MiniDV camera I have. They both worked as advertised and I will buy one again.

We had a Canon mini DV camcorder. Some family members used it to record at our wedding and reception. A few months later my wife and I wanted to look back at the video, but when we played back the tape, their where black bars across the video. We were initially afraid that the tape was bad and all the video from our wedding would have been lost. We tried the tapes in another camera and it worked fine. I read online that the black lines or audio not syncing with the video can be because of a dirty head in the camcorder. We wanted to back our video up on to DVDs, but our camcorder was getting a bit dated so I didn't want to invest a lot in fixing it. I bought this head cleaner as a last resort before just chucking the camera. It worked! I just ran it through camera like it said and within a few minutes the camera was back to working like new! Well worth the $5!!!

I recorded my sons Christmas Preschool concert. The next day I tried to watch it and found a half distorted screen and no sound. I was so upset and heartbroken. I was ready to ditch the recorder and buy a new one because Christmas was fastly approaching. After reading the instructions I found out it may need just cleaning... I searched everywhere in our town for a cleaner, nothing. I came on amazon and was suprised to find it for under $10. I ordered 1 day shipping and received it in exactly 24hrs. I put it in for 10seconds to clean...problem fixed!!! What a lifesavor! Now I can continue to capture my childress special moments in life and hold onto them forever!!The only downfall was that the tape that was used to record my sons concert is shot...but thankfully many other parents had recorded it and I can make copies!! This is a MUST BUY, Its an easy fix :) We have had our jvc video camera for six years now and just thought it was getting old but come to find it just needed a little tlc (cleaning) to bring it back to life :) Merry Christmas!!

The cleaner worked very well on a JVC camcorder that basically sat for a year in storage. It erased the lines through the tape that were appearing and everything worked fine, but I had to use it three times in a row to get these results. Mind you, this cam-corder was in a box, in a storage unit, with no a/c regulating the temperature, for a bout a year. And the only thing it was doing was something out of a Picasso painting before I used it. So in the end, it worked rather well, and for the price, it was worth it so i didn't have to get a new camera. It only has a recommend use of 20 times before replacing it, so in the long run, I would get it again.

I was so very pleased with this cleaning cassette by JVC. Not only did it work perfectly on my very first try, but I was really happy with the price as well. It has been a very long time since I have needed a new cleaning cassette and the last one I bought was quite a bit more expensive than this one was. And I might add that the store where I bought it didn't have any more available for sale.Thanks for a truly wonderful, effective product and a very reasonable price. I'll definitly come back here to Amazon.com to buy another one when I need it. I've already recommended this to another friend who needed one.

Not better or worse than others

I was watching a tape on my camera and I saw Grey lines. I knew my video heads were dirty but I didn't know it would look like that. So after recording 60 hr I guess you need to clean the thing. Or it was my camcorer breaking. I knew taking it for service would cause me at least 60 buck plus repairs. I didn't want to take it into be serviced. Lucky for me this JVC model was on sale. I was gonna get a Sony one to match my camera, but the price of $5.00 made me pick the JVC and it worked great.

My video camera stopped working after 3 years of operation. I was not sure about the problem, whether it's head was dirty or something else was broken. It's been long I stopped using VHS tape, and almost forgotten about head cleaning. Somewhere, at a discussion forum, I read about fixing the problem with the head-cleaning tape. So, I chose to try this one. My first trial was successful, but the problem re-occurred soon after a couple of use. I then repeatedly used the same JVC head cleaner 3-times. The problem was gone. It's been about a year, and my camera is still working fine. I use the camera occasionally, once-twice a month.
