The Nate Temple Series: Books 0-3: The Nate Temple Series Boxset Book 1
C**.
After reading this boxset, I am very invested in this series now. Cannot wait to continue on.
I had checked out this series before, but wasn’t too interested in it. But then another author's mailing list email brought it to my attention that this boxset was free, and decided it wouldn’t hurt to check it out. I’m glad I did. I started reading book one, and before I knew it, I was half way through the book.Book 1: Obsidian Son-This book had good start. From the beginning, there was a mystery to it that I wanted to get to the bottom of. Unfortunately, that mystery wasn’t solved by the end of this book, but was thankfully solved by the end of the second book. I liked the humor aspect to the story. It helped to break up the more serious aspects of the story.Nate is tasked by three different people to find the same book. He’s unsure what the draw of this book is, and doesn’t really know who two of the people even are. The entrance of dragons, and thus, dragon hunters, just adds to the trouble Nate has. Add to that his friend Peter, who is deeply suspicious from the start. He’s suddenly wearing a bracelet, a bracelet he keeps touching, when he never wears jewelry, and suddenly has powers. Nate is wary if his friend, not sure what is going on. Peter is a life-long friend, and any betrayal will cut through Nate like a knife. All of Nate’s trouble’s come to an epic confrontation with the Dragon Lord, which includes the mysterious book and the rogue dragon everyone is hunting, also Nate’s client. This book had a really good ending. It was sad that Gunnar and Tory (a policewoman who joined their “team”) lost their jobs, but with the creation of their own “black-ops” team, they will still be doing what they know, and helping the town. I also like the fact that Misha and Raego (two Dragons) have become Nate’s, Tory’s, and Gunnar’s friends, and will help the group as well.Book 2: Blood Debt-Nate is hoping to resume a normal life, but he’s having night terrors that keep him up and affect his daily life. Then both Angels and Demons show up in St. Louis, further complicating things. The Angels want Nate out of the investigation into his parent’s murder, but why? Then the Academy of Wizards steps in, their Justices demanding Nate show them/give them the Armory, but he has no idea where/what it is. Upset at his lack of help, the head Justice Jafar places a curse on Nate that will deplete his powers as he uses them until there is nothing left and he is a Regular. Placing the curse on him really could endanger his life. There are demons running around, how will he defend himself if he has no powers? As I read this book, it had me upset and angry. Not at the writing, but at the lack of support Nate is receiving. His friends are away on vacations (much needed), his girlfriend is away to help her mother. All oddly suspicious to have happened at the same time. He is basically alone, except for Othello who miraculously shows up to help him. The Academy is against him. The police, FBI, the Angels, and the Demons… all against him as well. The Academy wants him to handle the Demon problem, then strips him of the powers he needs to do such a thing, then blames him for failing. No one listens to reason, and Nate is failing miserably without a good ending to the situation in sight. Plus, everyone wants the Armory Nate’s parents have hidden away, but at first Nate has no idea what/where it is, or what the Key is to get inside. Then, once he figures it out, Nate realized he absolutely cannot hand it over to any of those who desperately want it. The Key to access the Armory is literally impossible for Nate to hand it over, but once again, no one will listen to him.Nate’s showdown finds him facing another person who has betrayed him, but Nate has the powers of Death (of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse) on his side. This betrayer has set up Nate from the beginning, and Nate is furious. As he prevails, he discovers he has powers again, but he is no longer a Wizard… he’s a Maker. Something that hasn’t been seen in hundreds of years. This book had a very emotional ending. As much as I was angry at this book, I was very happy at the ending. Nate is on to accomplish great things.Novella: Fairy Tales-Even though it’s a prequel, it’s a nice set up to the third book, Grimm. Well written, good back story.Book 3: Grimm-Once again, Nate seems way out of his league on this one. But, worse than ever before. The Brothers Grimm are back, and they are absolutely ruthless. One of Nate’s lines that pretty much explains it all is: “In one night, my whole world had collapsed. Every pillar that supported me shattered.”This book is making me upset too! The Grimm’s are officially screwing things up. Temple Industries is a mess, impostors have set up both Nate and Ashley, making it look like they had insider trading. Then the cake for Nate’s proposal…. Everything is working against them, and it’s just not fair. I really hope the rest of the books aren’t like this. After the impersonators basically ended the company, I began to wonder if this whole situation had gone FUBAR. Honestly, if I had been Nate, I would have told everyone to pack their bags. We’re done, we’re out of here to spend the rest of our lives somewhere nice, for however long that may be. I have to admire that he is still fighting. The Grimm’s just keep causing more and more trouble for Nate. Will it end? Will Nate be able to beat them? What an ending. An emotional, tears in my eyes kind of ending. And then Shayne Silvers makes everything okay. All my anger at this story was gone as he made it all okay again.A parting thought on this boxset. Throughout these books, I honestly feel bad for Nate. Not just because he’s always fighting for his life, but because he’s in the public eye as well… always in the public eye because of his family and the company. His life is in the public eye no matter what. Throughout these books, he’s always fighting to save his city, whether it be from dragons, Angels and Demons, or the Grimm brothers, and the destruction they all cause is caught on camera, reported on, and pretty much always blamed on him. He can’t publicly tell everyone the truth of what’s going on, and it makes him look bad, or crazy. That’s why I feel bad for him. If only he wasn’t in the public eye, there might be a little less pressure for him, I guess. After reading this boxset, I am very invested in this series now. I am so, so happy I checked it out, and cannot wait to continue on.

Best set of books I have bought in a long time, love them! Snarky, witty, action packed, fantasy filled, fun reads!
The Nate Temple Supernatural Thriller Series: Books 1-3 (The Nate Temple Supernatural Thriller Series Boxset) by Shayne Silvers is the best box set I have bought in a long time.Obsidian Son (The Temple Chronicles #1) by Shayne Silvers is truly a super awesome book and I stopped midway through the book and bought the rest of the books, yes, it is that good! Plus it is all happening near my home town so of course I will enjoy it more. There is sooo much action, fantasy/magic/shifters/creatures of all kinds that any respecting fantasy lover will adore this book! The wit and smart dialogue will keep you on your toes, there is a mystery or two, a romance or two, and more dragons then you can count. A super woman, a werewolf cop, and a wizard billionaire. Gargoyles, unicorns, and Minotaurs and in the book too. Can't forget them. There is so much and it is soooo fun. LOVED IT!!! Too bad 5 stars is all you can give. Great plot, exciting characters, and never, ever boring! Blood Debts (The Temple Chronicles #2) by Shayne Silvers is sooo awesome. Nate is some real trouble this time. The wizards take away his powers when he needs it most. Not only the normal crazy creatures of the night are after him but the super crazies are. The angels are after him because they think he killed one of their own. The wizards think this is a good time to off him and he is SOL, until .... well, this isn't a book report. So much action, suspense, snarky come backs, humor, and crazy situations keeps this book going out of control till the reader is giggling and having to much fun to want to see the end. But all good things do come to the end, unfortunely. Awesome. Grimm: A Novel In The Nate Temple Supernatural Thriller Series (The Temple Chronicles #3) by Shayne Silvers is such an awesome book! So were the others but this one had me worried there for a bit in the book, DON'T DO THAT TO YOUR READERS, SOME HAVE WEAK HEARTS!!! Man, I love these books. On to read the next one...they are soooo freaking addictive. Weres, vamps, Death, Angels, a Minotaur, and fairies, and .... you get the picture. I don't think you really do unless you read the books because they are NOT what you imagine. Not in the least. Come, join the Nate Temple team, we are all strange here but boy do we love it!!!!! Fairy Tale: A Novella in The Nate Temple Supernatural Thriller Series (The Temple Chronicles) by Shayne Silvers is a great addition to the series. I read it out of order and it was still great. It is really the prequel to the series. It comes in the box set so read this first. It explains how Nate gets the book store and all the craziness that went along with it. Super exciting story there! Wow! I have read all of Jim Butcher's books and love them but I love these better. Wonderful books!

A serious disappointment.
I got this off the back of the advertisement that if you like the Dresden Files, you'll love this. Not quite true.. I sat down, open mind, and started to read.. Then a pattern quickly arose.. Something happens, so the main character throws money at it, and it goes away (he's a billionaire, so money doesn't matter).. Or comes across something that's insurmountable, but he just hits it anyway because he's just a super wizard (hey, billionaire, plus he's a top wizard).. And hey.. Everyone loves him, despite his written narcissistic behaviour... And when things get tough, miraculously one of his two dimensional additions of a super retainer appear to get him out of trouble.I got to about chapter 30, and discovered that there were hours of my life that I'd never get back, and the story telling just didn't seem to be getting better.. Any book where after about 6 hours plus of reading (and I'm a pretty nippy reader), I'm still finding characters two dimensional, and reading about the 'hero' feels like sticking a metaphorical hand in a hornet's nest, there's not much point in reading on. There aren't many books that I abandon, but this is one.

It’s not Dresden Files, stop hoping
13 year old boy writes book about what he wants to be.I very rarely write negative reviews but I feel so let down I’m going to. I was promised the Dresden Files, I got... a 2 dimensional character who is a complete jerk. He treats his “friends” terribly, throws his weight around and bullies everyone who gets in his way. It’s very hard to get into into a series when 3 chapters in you are hoping for the main character to get bumped off.It always makes me uncomfortable when a writer too blatantly writes their own desires into a book. In this case it seems the author wants to be James Bond. And always right. And also mad scary bro, but sensitive. Also good with the ladies. All ladies. On earth.

Once you pop, you can't stop! This is only the beginning...
The first box set in the series. Start here! This is where I first got hooked on the Templeverse world. Obsidion Son. A recommendation that just wouldn't go away. I caved, and suddenly, I'd read all the available books in less than a fortnight! A wizard millionaire? Cow tipping not just A minotaur, but THE minotaur? And he owns a bookstore? It just gets crazier and crazier, but this is one amazing ride you never want to get off! Each novel and short story brings the characters to life and you will become emotionally attatched. Emotions you never thought you could feel about a fictional character will have you begging for more!As with all good stories though, there has to be a start. Obsidian Son is that start, though there is a free ebook available on Shayne Silvers site for Fairy Tale, a short story. I apologise only for the sleepless nights!

No glittery magic in sight!
Having not read any books by Shayne Silvers, I wasn't sure what to expect. Shayne's style is quite different from the usual fantasy books I read. Nate Temple is an obnoxious, hard drinking, sarcastic magical who swears often, as do his friends and girlfriend (anyone who dates Nate would end up swearing) and has a knack of doing things the hard way! Angel's, nephilim and demons are as sneaky and violent as each other. I often found myself unable to put the book down even though it being long past midnight. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series, discovering what troubles Nate manages to attract this time. A good gritty read! Ten out of ten!

at first I wasn't sure if I liked him at all
If you are a fan of The Dresden Files, these books will help while away the (very long!) wait for the next installment of Harry!Nate is a wizard, a billionaire and a bit of a rogue, at first I wasn't sure if I liked him at all, but he grows on you. His heart is definitely in the right place. The story moves quickly, no long boring bits and has plenty of excitement, intrigue and magic. The cast of supporting characters are varied and well fleshed out (more so as the series progresses, obviously).I love that, while there is a touch of romance, it is by no means the engine of the story, Nate and his magic are. Hey, just 'cos I am female doesn't mean I want the mushy stuff :p
