An elegant kettle that is also a one touch tea or coffee maker.
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. The kettle has a large lid which lifts completely off. It is easy to reach inside to wash the limescale off the glass body of the kettle. I have often been frustrated by kettles with small lids that stop me getting my hand in for cleaning. This one and a few other glass ones I have seen recently are much better. Another neat trick is the detachable infuser which will keep tea leaves and coffee grounds in while you chosen beverage is steeping. The glass sides are great here too because it is easy to see when its done. There is a smaller lid which locks into the centre of the main lid and you can remove that to add your tea leaves or coffee grounds. The small lid is basically just a lid for the infuser and, I suspect, it is for this reason you do not risk being scalded by steam when you remove it.The base has temperature settings for the most popular beverages with settings for Green and White tea, coffee and black tea or as we British would say normal tea. The setting for normal tea is of course boiling point 212 degrees or 100C. There is also keep warm option which is handy if your guests do not all arrive at the same time or if you need a second serving. The sides being glass would allow the tea to cool too fast and I've yet to see a tea cosy that would fit a kettle. We normally use loose leaf tea because quite frankly it tastes better but also of course it can go on the compost heap whereas tea bags which still mostly contain plastic cannot. We have been using a Chatsford tea pot up to now but this clever kettle does give us another option.

Good as a Kettle
I bought the Aicook as a kettle not a tea maker, so I can't comment on its tea-making ability. However, as a kettle it works really well. You can remove the tea receptacle very easily so there's no major adaptation to use it as a kettle. The build quality is solid and it comes well-packaged and presented. It boils water moderately quickly and quietly and because it is glass you can see how much water is in it, and when it is boiling. You can also see the limescale (we are a very hard water area) and if that bothers you then you should be aware that you will be descaling regularly if you want to eliminate it. It's not a problem for me. The lid removes and replaces easily, so it is a doddle to fill and it's not heavy, so you don't need two hands to hold it - just as well as the glass gets hot.The controls are straightforward in most respects. You select the temperature you want and press go. The buttons don't click but they do light up and the settings are obvious. I really like that you can mute the audible alarm and turn the beep off. Everything in my kitchen beeps - except my kettle. Now the cons - with most kettles when you remove it from the base it turns off. Not this one. If you empty it into a saucepan and then replace it, it immediately starts to re-boil. You have to turn it off to prevent this. There is a keep-warm function which is not obvious and can't be disabled on the 100 degree boil setting. So you boil the kettle, it reaches temperature and switches off, then on again, then off, then on again...you do get used to just switching it off when it's boiled, but it's supposed to be automatic. It does have a boil-dry protection, but you don't really want to have to use that. It also boils for some time when it reaches temperature. It will switch itself off eventually but not before the kitchen is full of steam. So overall a very good kettle for the price with some niggles in the way it works. Very good value and recommended with a few reservations.

Beautiful multipurpose kettle
I've been looking for a glass kettle that didn't have a garish coloured light on the water when it's on. This is perfect and looks great. The temperature controls are easy to follow (it comes with a manual but I've not had to dip into it yet). Pros: It boils quickly and great to have the option of making tea with it should you fancy. The lid is easy to remove (it removes completely) and put back on, it's just held on with enough suction to not have it fall off. Great that the lid removes completely as it makes the kettle really easy to clean and its less fiddly filling it with water. The interior part of the lid, if you want to access/remove the tea filter bit, is also simple. Twist and pull. Easy to do with one hand and no strength required if you don't have strong grip. The measurement marks are repeated on both sides of the kettle so it doesn't matter if you're left or right handed or which way you want the kettle to face, you can always see the minimum-maximum, etc. The handle is large and easy to grip. Cons: these aren't important to me but thought it was worth noting - the jug itself gets VERY hot. Very very hot. The handle is well designed with a guard on the jug side so it will never be a problem when using this kettle but, if you have kids of the age that could reach and touch things on your kitchen counter, this is not the kettle for you. Likewise if you do not have strength to lift or pour a kettle with one hand and need to use both hands, better to get a thermos kettle. Be aware that this kettle has a slightly larger footprint than most so check measurements to make sure it fits your space. That's the only cons i can think of, otherwise, it's a lovely classy kettle and works a treat.. I highly recommend!

The next level for brewing tea.
Our second of this type and we're not disappointed. My wife loves green tea and usually used the tea bag format. After buying this kettle, we got some real green tea and added it in the centre tubing with little holes. A few minutes later, her green tea was ready and she loves the flavour. It keeps it nice and warm for a few hours. It also boils water just the temperature you want, for example not boiling for coffee. It's a solidly built unit and is easy to clean. Its led controls add a contemporary feel to it and we're quite proud to show it off in our kitchen. Very impressed.
