The Cambridge Modern History Collection Kindle Edition

I love looking at history from a very broad perspective, trying to spot patterns and trends, as any good hominid does. Anyhow, this collection is great (esp. for the price) as an intro to history, with an emphasis on European history. While that's increasingly becoming taboo in our post-post-modern world, I still enjoy it. Recommend as an introduction to history, with more modern, scholarly histories that focus on specific areas of interest to provide greater depth.

Negatives: Poorly edited, frequent misspellings, random format jumps. It’s like a badly copied version of an original document. No usable links to easily translate phrases in Latin or other non-English languages, must be copied to an external web page or browser to translate. Some terminology and historical events are assumed to be understood by the reader and are not explained (partly due to the original publication’s age and intended audience).Positives: Individual chapters are written by different authors, and most are good writers, others not. But each chapter is a stand alone fact-filled document, and using the table of contents, the reader may choose focus on individual time periods or regions of Europe.

The most comprehensive in-depth look into European history I ever read. You see all aspects of history and who was leading the critical events.

This was a modern history about a century ago. It has interesting things, but we have learned a lot since then. Useful as a curiosity or as a study piece, but not in the way intended

This book is over 5,000 pages, ask me again in 4-5 yrs. So far, it seems to be a "Game of Thrones" kind of story, lots of fighting and killing.

Superb recording of England's history. Should now cast an anchor into the Channel to keep the Island from drifting toward Iceland further away from the continent.
