The Healing Reawakening: Reclaiming Our Lost Inheritance

Worthwhile Read
Great overview of the role of a personal experience of the Spirit through the history of Christianity and how that experience is central to any authentic expression of the Faith. Through the historical material MacNutt delivers a very powerful sermon of sorts on what is actually possible when people open up to the Spirit with a sense of expectancy as well as what can and doing wrong when the desire for control seeks to quell that openness. I especially liked his observation that psychology is often more about making some malady and teaching you to live with it than actually healing you. Contrast that with the healing power of the Spirit and you have a rather pointed example of what MacNutt is trying to convey throughout the book, mainly that the Spirit can and does do so much more than most mainline churches are even aware of. Lastly, don't skip the appendix where MacNutt tells his own story. It's well worth reading.

A. Must Read For the Aspiring Believer
In the subject line I use the word “aspiring”, breathing. In the Genesis creation account the word for Spirit is breath. This book is in itself a fresh breath for a renewed spiritual life of following Jesus, being transformed from glory to glory, experiencing more fully, completely, becoming his friend and he ours. I am not yet a charismatic. But I love how two friends, one a pastor who moved from a life of being a cessationist (miracles ceased upon the death of the apostles) to endorsing the validity and value of the the filling and empowering of and by the Holy Spirit, courtesy of reading Jack Deere; the second, Don Williams, my college department pastor at Hollywood Pres in the days of the street people of Hollywood and the Jesus people; both saying we do not need to use or disavow the term “charismatic”, instead “simply Christian.” Francis McNutt has meticulously chronicled and demonstrated in this book that practicing healing is simply Christian, while dramatic should actually be blessedly ordinary in the life of Christians for their own personal edification but even more so for those others suffering from physical, emotional and spiritual pain; aren’t we all.? He encourages rather than pulling back to eagerly seek and ask for the infilling and empowering of the Holy Spirit in the application specifically healing, that this is literally available, indeed encouraged, if not exhorted, for all, every ordinary believer. Francis McNutt is fond of quoting, “everyone gets to play.” It is truly the least and best we can do for ourselves and others. A must read.

Amazing book filled with the Holy spirit
This is one of the best books I have ever read about healing. I grew up in the Charismatic Renewal in the Catholic church, and am still involved today as much as I can. I have always known in my soul that healing is not practiced as it should be today.I have had many experiences with healing due to severe eye problems, so I truly believe we need to treat healing as it was treated back in the time of Jesus and after. Francis MacNutt seems to agree with my opinion and confirms what my soul already knows.Francis Macnutt does an incredible job with the history of healing and deliverance throughout the centuries. He gives a very detailed account of why healing and deliverance slowly ceased from the late 300's until now. NOw, I have an understanding of what went wrong. This book made me feel empowered to pray over everyone I see that is sick under god's direction of course. MacNutt emphasizes the importance of the Baptism in the spirit, not only for the Charismatic gifts, but also for the fruits of the Spirit.May this book empower you to pray over the sick and cast out demons as was done 2,000 years ago!

Important reading
I read this for a class. It reveals that healing was almost completely removed from the Church over the centuries in a gradually insidious manner via formal religion, secularism, and sincere fundamentalists. The almost perfect crime. But, God has not given up on us or the world. Healing is rising from near death and is awakening again. We are awakening. This is a very important read for every Christian. It opened my eyes.

An incredible work! I read this book as part of my graduate work at Oral Roberts University and it was a great blessing. For years I struggled with what I read in the New Testament and the practice of our churches (generally speaking). I used to wonder privately "why are there so many miracles in the Bible and so few in our churches?" It is no secret that true healing power is not seen as often as we should given the emphasis given in the New Testament. This book helped understand some of the reasons for the disconnect between New Testament teaching and contemporary church practice. I recommend this book for any serious student who wants solid answers.

Very Important in these Times of Confusion
Dr Francis McNutt writes on a number of important healing topics - I recommend all of his books. - this one supports the individual to really take their healing path - and not be caught up in the negativity, blame of others even if they have harmed one - that keeps us locked in the place of helplessness, hopelessness, anger - Each of us needs to find our path in these times.

informative, instructive and inspiring book
I am a Pentecostal by spiritual birth, called to be a pastor & teacher. To learn from a Catholic concerning Spirit baptism, speaking in tongues, healing and deliverance seems like "back-tracking" for me, on the surface at least. I was wrong! Dr. Francis has given an excellent ecclesiastical, diachronic account of the "lost art" of healing, deliverance, not forgetting Spirit baptism and glossalalia, and convinced me of its indispensability for ministry today. His premise-every Christian who is baptized with the Spirit can do it. So you can!! It's time to practically reclaim what's shelved and shoved by the tyranny of church institutionalism.

Excellent history of the healing movement
Good to know the history of the healing ministry from the time of Christ to the presentPraying for healing of the whole person was and needs to be the norm for all ChristiansWe have strayed from the Gospel message especially during the Elightenment period when man’s reason and intellect became our God and the spiritual world was seen as superstitious. We are returning now to reawakening of the original design for Christians to pray for healing like Christ did

An important book
Very compelling reasons given for the decline of healing prayer and the necessity of resurrecting it. My only gripe is the over enthusiasm toward all things charismatic, considering the horrendous abuse of deliverance prayer particularly in Africa in relation to children and witchcraft. Nevertheless, a fine book by a wonderful practitioner of what he proclaims - would that the Church worldwide would heed his call to proclaim the kingdom of God and heal the sick.
