Even though it's been probably a year since I read this book it has stayed with me. How can a pastor's wife turn so deadly and conniving! Very well written. You'll love reading about all of the twists and turns in this book. Happy reading.

Gregg Olsen is a gifted writer who does a ton of research which makes for an interesting page turner. My only comment on this book is how in the world did those people get away with such abuse and murder for so long. I can't imagine children not reporting being tortured by their parents, but it happens unfortunately.This is another winner for Gregg Olsen.

Gregg Olsen is either hit or miss with me... no in-betweens, but this has got to be his worst book I've read so far, bar none!! I was actually happy to get to the ending of this no-photo-badly-written book. Very repetitive in it's description of Sharon, the Black Widow, and also lacking in the kind of depth that I expect from a true crime book. This book seems quite ill-researched and comes off as sheer small town gossip. Sometimes Mr Olsen takes artistic liberties with his descriptions too far, to a point where one wonders if he isn't making up a lot of his information as he goes along. I also got a feeling that this book was written in a big hurry and most certainly did NOT like the lack of mention of the detective work and the court case, (yes I know she pleaded guilty but I would still have appreciated a chapter on that). I can't believe one of my favourite true-crime authors, William Phelps, actually wrote a foreward for this. William, were you coerced? I have made a suggestion before and I make it again; Mr Olsen would do himself a little more justice but studying the writing style of such greats as Anne Rule, and, oh yes... William Phelps! The way it's related, this story would be great told by someone over a few drinks in a pub on a Saturday night, but as a book it leaves me wondering: did Gregg Olsen, a writer lauded as one of America's great true-crime writers actually write it? If so, it is very, very disappointing!

This story is so absorbing and fascinating, that it makes up for the fact that the book has a distracting flaw: whoever printed this larger format, apparently took the text from the mass market paperback and just sent it to press without adjusting it, so that segments within each chapter are not separated by a space or by *** as is usually done when you jump from one narrative scene to the other. Before I caught on to this, I was wondering why the author, without warning, shifted the narrative from one scene to the next, disconcerting the reader. When I realized what was happening, I understood that the problem was not bad writing or bad editing and I was able to understand the sudden shifts. Also, there are many typos and errors that could have benefited from a good proofreader. Another disappointing misstep worth pointing out is that there are no photos, at least in this printing of the book. Much is made of the black widow's physical appearance, but all we get to see of her is a small photograph of her face on the cover. This is why I give it four stars instead of five, which, for story alone, it deserves. As for the story itself, this true crime tale is so incredible, that if it were a novel you'd stop reading it and label it "too fantastical". But as we read we learn that truth is, indeed, stranger than fiction. How did these otherwise intelligent men allow themselves to fall for this outrageous and manipulative woman? The author does a good job of getting us into the characters' motivations and the story grows more riveting with each page. All in all, this is a top-notch true crime story that will keep you turning pages well into the night!

Sharon Nelson os one narcissistic bitch. Heres a women who attracted very nice men... She destroyed them literally. Everything that Sharon did was to only benefit herself. She didn't care who saw her with other men. She didnt care who she hurt or how badly she hurt them. Its my opinion Sharon was incapable of loving anyone but herself. Sharon was a very dangerous woman... Men are alot safer without her around...

As always, Gregg Olsen does not disappoint. This book had me hooked from the first page to the last. I highly recommend this gripping read by (in my opinion) the best true crime writer of our time.

Amazon needs to stop printing books. The paper is ulta white making reading for any length of time impossible. Editing is none existent, no page numbers no division of chapeters all in all a terrible reading experience.
