Modern Mix: Curating Personal Style with Chic & Accessible Finds Hardcover – September 1, 2015

Sitting down and reading this book is like a guided trip through the world of design. It shows how anyone can have fine things on even a shoe string budget and how to use your purchases in an elegant and timeless manner. It is totally inspiring and makes me want to go to the nearest flea market to see what treasures I can find. It will open your eyes to a new way of looking at design and entertaining. Kudos to Eddie and Jaithan for writing such a fabulous book with amazing images. Even the book itself is done with an elegant touch, with its thick pages and the fun lead-in page on it's brightly colored paper. If you need inspiration to get out of your decorating rut, this is the book for you. Anyone can have a beautiful and elegant home if you use some Eddie's advice!!!

Out of a substantial collection of decorating books I own, this one is by far THE VERY BEST. It is visually beautiful, well organized and I return to it over and over for inspiration and information. There is so much practical information on caring for and restoring almost everything for your home. For example there's an excellent section on restoring metals like copper, silver and brass; removing mineral deposits from chrystal and glassware; etc. Just tons of great information and pictures. Eddie Ross is, in my opinion, a rock star when it comes to creating a beautiful home using thrifted and flea market treasures. I'm buying another copy for a gift.

Wow! This book exceeded my expectations, from the moment I took it out of the packaging. For whatever reason, I somehow missed the fact that it is a coffee table book, so it was larger, bolder, brighter than I expected. Absolutely gorgeous.Unlike Eddie, who was visiting thrift shops in his teens, II came into 'thrifting' later in life. Now all the things I wanted when I was in my 20s and couldn't afford are being shed like crazy by baby boomers (or their parents) and dropped off at thrift stores, where I pick them up for a song. Finally, I am styling my house with - well, my style, with items of better quality than I could ever afford new. Eddie's book affirmed my latest decorating/thrifting passion. His style is definitely "more is more," which isn't me, but I enjoy looking at his lush interior landscapes, and picking up ideas. He makes me feel okay for being a little obsessed, lately, with trips to the thrift store (today's score: a tea pot sold on one popular website for $300, which I picked up for $3.00 in perfect condition!). He makes me want to have him as a friend, to be invited over for one of his cool soirees at his fabulous tables, and to follow him around on a flea market recognizance. Ah well. We can have this book, instead.

This is not your average coffee table book. Yes, it has gorgeous pictures and high design. But where Eddie Ross differs from everyone else out there is that is ATTAINABLE design. Most interior design books are aspirational--beautiful to look at, but completely unrealistic for mere mortals like me. Eddie has never been that way. He actually TEACHES you how you can make your home life more beautiful...and he makes it fun. Besides lots of pretty pictures, this book is a wealth of knowledge. Read it and learn! You CAN do this and you don't need a lot of money to make it happen. I will be reading this book for months--there is so much information. Modern Mix will make you look twice at things you used to dismiss as trash!

I received my copy of Modern Mix over the weekend and promptly sat down with a glass of wine and read it cover to cover! Just like Eddie Ross the book is stylish, chic, funny and so down to earth. Few design books give you tips on how to style a room or a dinner table with great flair and on a budget.Nobody can find flea market deals like Eddie and his partner Jaithan. The book gives you tips from apps for your iPhone to what brands to look for when you are at a flea market. I love this book and am promptly buying copies for everyone on my holiday shopping list. You should too!

I love that the book is "divided" into sections. Perhaps you don't care for Design, you must read one Section called Restore. These guys do a fabulous job on explaining what to do or NOT do with cleaning each type of material. My copy of Modern Mix is getting so much use I finally took off the book jacket. When my dear mother passed away, I had hundreds of boxes of sterling silver (flatware, candle sticks, plates?, every shape & size of serving & display ware) copper, brass, bone china, early American ceramics, crystal, cut glass -- you name it. I gently packed it up in acid free paper (learned that from MS or maybe Eddie wrote the article) and it all went to the attic (semi-cool). For fifteen plus years, until Modern Mix. Now it's Christmas morning every time I open a box! Thank you Eddie and Jaithan, my mom thanks you too.

I bought this book used for about $6.It shows items to look for at thrift stores, estate sales, flea markets, etc. instead of buying brand new. For akitchen table junkie who doesn't have a large budget, it's a pretty good database to start with. When it pertains tokitchen table decorating wants and needs, it's a convenient and personal style. It has great pictures and great ideas (do-it-yourself / how-to-make sections). A curated find at a low price.

I love Eddie Ross and all of his tips and articles in House Beautiful. This book is so fun to flip through and Eddie's personality really comes through in his text. The pictures are visually interesting well laid out. I love how Eddie encourages you and explains how to look for inexpensive treasures at flea markets and garage sales, etc. So fun! It is a nice looking book, too, and I have it on my console table behind my couch stacked with a few other books. Love it! Eddie rocks!
