3-Pack of Disney INFINITY Figures: the Sidekicks

GREAT IN THEORY, BUT IN PRACTICE NEVER REALLY TOOK OFF AT OUR HOUSE
My daughter was a huge fan of Skylanders, which was the original video game that required you to buy endless figures and paraphernalia for use in the game. She is also a huge fan of Disney, so I thought Disney Infinity would be a huge hit at our house. It wasn’t. She just never really got into it - and I kept encouraging her by buying the figures of her favorite characters. She did play Disney Infinity some, but it just never took hold the way Skylanders did.THE KID SAYS: The included toy box modes had good stories but beyond that there was so little direction that some people could get overwhelmed. The stories were easy to finish up and after that it was hard for me to come up with ideas for the sandboxes.

Nice looking figures, and a great way to get into local co-op for Infinity 1.0
I put off ordering this one for a while but I was on a bit of a Disney Infinity binge and decided it was high time I got some more figures for the Incredibles, Pirates and Monsters playsets for 1.0. If you or your kids want to play 1.0 Infinity on co-op, this set has everything you need, and if you're just looking for some companion pieces to put on display with the starter pack toys it's perfectly good for that too. The toys are all very nicely sculpted and detailed, representing their characters in the usual blocky, cartoonish style of Disney Infinity with some nice little details, like Captain Barbosa's monkey and Mike's retainer. Barbosa's sword is made of soft plastic and arrived crooked, but I was able to easily correct it with some hot water.I've played around with these in-game for a while, and while 1.0 Infinity is a pretty basic game I'll do my best to give you a review of these things as in-game characters. Barbosa basically plays like Jack Sparrow, with a gun for long range and a sword for close range melee attacks. Mike basically plays like Sulley with a sneaking ability and the ability to scare enemies into being stunned. Elastigirl is the one who stands out as having a unique ability not shared by Mr. Incredible in that she can do some stretching tricks, although if you've already been spoiled by the likes of Spider-Man in 2.0 you might be a little underwhelmed by her abilities. Even having said that, these are all fun characters to play with and they all have unique animations and voice acting.Particularly given the reduced price, I'd say grab this set while you can. I think I probably would have gotten a lot more mileage out of 1.0 if I had picked this set up sooner, since playset co-op in the 1.0 starter pack is pretty much walled off if you don't have some additional characters for each play set.

Now father and son can play together
I put off buying Disney Infinity for more than a year, but now that Disney Infinity 2.0 (with Marvel characters) has been released, but son and I finally decided to take the plunge. Beware: the games are fun, the toy box is great, and the figures are delightful. We picked up the sidekicks pack so that we can play together in the base game playsets. Even though the starter pack comes with 3 figures, those three can only be used together in the ToyBox. To play tandem in the playsets, two characters from the same franchise (Monsters, Pirates, Incredibles) are needed. So now Mr Incredible, Sully, and Jack have a partner so that my son and I can play split screen. These figures looks great. Each has a base (ground texture) that matches their franchise, and the paint/detailing is nice. The limbs are made of a bendable plastic, so they will not break off if dropped from a short height. However, my son took on of them outside to play and dropped it in the cement. The figure broke off the base, and I had to use super glue to put it back on. It is now definitely an indoor only toy.Even though these are designed for digital play, both of my sons enjoy using them offline and making their own adventures. They do not mind that they come from different movies. In terms of cost, these are not cheap. But buying this combo pack does reduce the cost of each figures to less than 10 USD each (reg 12-14 USD per figure), so this is a good way to build your collection. There are not power discs in this pack, but it does include a webcode so that these characters can be used in the iPad and PC version of Disney Infinity (in toybox mode).

Great addition!
We bought these to go with our kids new xbox 360 infinity game. We couldn't decide if we wanted some bad guys or good guys but this set was priced right and went with the characters that came with the game so we were sold. This gave us the opportunity to play a two player game and the option to switch characters out. Friendly warning: It also lead to us buying Dash and Violet so we could have the entire family of Incredibles. Very clever Disney, very clever.I have read other reviews about the game/characters so we were concerned about making the purchase but after talking with some game enthusiasts we decided to get the infinity for the xbox and not the wii. We also decided that though Skylander might have more to offer in terms of game play the infinity offers the characters our kids have grown up with so they enjoy playing them and that was the biggest reason for our decision.FYI: You will need at least two characters from each story/movie if you want to be able to play a two player game. The only time characters can interact with a character from a different story is in what they call the toy box.

Should have came with the 1.0 Starter Bundle.
This IS the best companion pack for the money to the Infinity 1.0 starter set. Instantly makes the game a 2 player setup. When we bought the game, it was too difficult for my daughter (Pre-K) to play by herself in the themed missions, so I bought a Violet in the Girl Power 3 pack, and it opened up a whole new level of fun, since it adds a lot more challenges than the toy box. We just started the Monsters, and have yet to do the pirates. We play slow, and so far the it has added around 3 weeks of playtime (playing 1 hour a day) to our evening fun, and we are about halfway through.

Finding this made my daughter's day; she loves Infinite. Pity it's discontinued.
