The media could not be loaded. I only realized this after I bought it. The biggest pieces, queens and kings cannot hold onto the board if the board is tilted more than 45°. This is expected because the magnets are behind the wooden base of the board and the cloth like material on the pieces. I think this is expected, and the best that magnets can do.The thing I did not like much and I think that is a common theme across all kinds of magnetic chessboard is that the pieces are not securely fitted on the inside of the box. They are OK when closed but sometimes although rarely, you might need to just keep the board open with the pieces inside for decoration purpose but that won’t be possible with the board facing up.Also because the inside is black, if there is no good lighting sometimes by mistake where you are sitting, it is very hard to keep the pieces in their place, because since the pieces cannot be kept freely, it’s hard to keep them aligned in the respective places.Besides these nuances generally this board is good for a non-picky average customer if that is you. The wood material is sturdy. it’s well polished everywhere. The pieces are good. The lock is secure the magnets are good for most of the pieces except king and queen because they are tall and heavy and this board is good to be used in a car or train, etc. but not naughty kids around.

Finally coming back to write a review 2 years later. We got this set for our 6yr old to learn how to play. 2 years later the set still looks like new and the magnetic board is still holding strong. It’s a great set to take with when you travel or play on the couch (cause the pieces don’t move). High quality heavier wood pieces. Absolutely would recommend and will give as a future gift. Would buy again if I ever needed another but I know this current set will hold up for many many years.

great wooden board with magnetic pieces. it seems like some of the pieces are slightly tilted. the magnets underneath the pieces are ok-ish. been using only for about 2 days. the package itself was great. the pieces are placed inside a carved foam to snugly fit the pieces when not in use. one of the pieces had some sort of mold that i had to clean it away. otherwise been satisfied with the product.

First time player. I like the quality of the board and the organization of the pieces. Very good value for the price. Convenient size as well.

Great product

Very pleased with this chess set. Bought for my 93 yr old dad - he has a tremor so needed the magnet board - cuts back on him inadvertently knocking over pieces. Magnet isn't too strong - it's just right. Was worried the "travel" board might be too small - it's a terrific size, portable but doesn't feel too small at all. Great set.
