Are men's and women's brains really different? Why are teenagers impulsive and rebellious? And will it soon be possible to link our brains together via the Cloud? Drawing on the latest neuroscience research, this visual guide makes the hidden workings of the human brain simple to understand. How the Brain Works begins with an introduction to the brain's anatomy, showing you how to tell your motor cortex from your mirror neurons. Moving on to function, it explains how the brain works constantly and unnoticed to regulate heartbeat and breathing, and how it collects information to produce the experiences of sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. The chapters that follow cover memory and learning, consciousness and personality, and emotions and communication. There's also a guide to the brain's disorders, including physical problems, such as tumors and strokes, and psychological and functional disorders, ranging from autism to schizophrenia. Illustrated with bold graphics and step-by-step artworks, and sprinkled with bite-sized factoids and question-and-answer features, this is the perfect introduction to the fascinating world of the human brain. Solid and Readable Science
I’m into brain books. My personal library has nearly a dozen, from scholarly texts to popular, from brain injury to legal defense issues. This is one of the best. The science is sound and up to date. The writing is excellent. The illustrations are informative. Highly recommend.

Lots of interesting information
Lots of interesting information. This is a subject that the general public knows little about. Many billions of neurons(nerve cells) sending messages and instructions from our brains. Sent by electrical and chemical means on to other neurons and on and on. And then neurons in the heart and gut not only react to those messages but are also capable of returning some information back to the brain. It cant be explained how this all developed and probably we will never know. Our brains have developed to the point that we can reason and plan and understand complexity. We do know that not only is life subject to change...but invites change. Change is a requirement in all life. That is all we know now. I would like to know more, but no one knows those answers. All we can do is refine and study the information that is available. Who knows what the human brain will be capable of in 1000 years...or a million years. I suspect that the brain will be very different. I read through this book and as time allows I will try to study it in greater detail. My brain tells me that I should do that. The human brain is the most complex thing on this earth.

5th grader loves it
bought this for my homeschooled 5th grader who is obsessed with all things “brain”. Some chapters go over her head but she is currently loving the chapter on brain disorders. This book is so full of info I can use it for several years in our homeschool.

Knowledge is Power! With guided support recovery is possible.
This title explains how the brain works, especially when it comes to depression and recovery. It compares brain activity to a system running behind the scenes — like how payments process in the background. When something goes wrong in the brain, it can affect emotions just like a glitch affects a transaction. The idea of recovery is like fixing that system so it runs smoothly again. It shows how brain functions can get “out of sync” and what helps get them back on track. The topic is meaningful and well-connected to real-life struggles with mental health. Some of the wording feels a bit long or complex, like a receipt with too much fine print. But overall, it offers helpful insight in an understandable way. It’s a good pick for anyone curious about how the brain supports emotional healing. Think of it as a user-friendly guide to what’s happening “behind the scenes” in your mind.
