Grinder used for sanding
I purchased this grinder with the Dewalt DW4945 4 and a 1/2 inch rubber backing pad and DW4525 35grit sanding discs. I used this setup to sand some house facing down to the wood because the paint was peeling. Scraping and orbital sanding were taking hours per square foot, but this setup moves right along. There is some danger to gouging especially when the disc is in the first 10 minutes. Possibly a larger diameter would be safer but I don't know. On the other hand the small size lets you zero in on stubborn spots. 50 grit might work better. I can't see any courser working well. The bearings/gear system don't sound smooth like a router but at speed the vibration is no trouble. There are higher priced models; don't know exactly the benefit but they do have a different trigger system. This one has one lever high and in front which you can lock and then shut off with the thumb on the hand holding the grinder while your other hand is say on a ladder or something. Not bad.

Sturdy and dependable
I bought this grinder for use on my job, I'm the Maintenace Supervisor at a multi-use building, and have used it for a wide variety of jobs - everything from simply smoothing out a sticking metal framed door to cutting through rebar when we did some major remodeling. This grinder is easy to handle, being small and lightweight enough to get into a tight spot yet still has the power for tough jobs. It has a simple on/off switch rather than a dead man switch but I feel that is a plus. I sometimes use this grinder for an extended period and like to shift my grip, I wouldn't be able to do that with a dead man switch. Please don't take this as a criticism of a dead man switch, I highly recommend that type if you are a casual user or inexperienced with power tool use - this grinder could cause serious injury if not used safely and properly. It does vibrate, but that is common with any grinder, however the vibrations for this grinder seem to be minimized are not that tiring to my hands.

Good for working on car or garage projects, probably not for huge things
If you are going to do some of the stuff in the pictures (is that guy at a foundry or ship yard?) then this is not the tool for you.Do not buy this if you are trying to scrap a warship, dismantle a large aircraft or cut through I beams at construction sites.Do buy this if you need to cut a car frame, make a hole in something, install a dog door, remove a finger, grind stuff or trim something metal.I used it when I was putting air ride on a project car and to grind about a billion random things that needed to be ground. Super useful for small jobs, but very loud - buy earplugs. Also, some sort of long sleeve garment and a clear face mask are a good idea as well.

Not so flexible product
This product is only working at 120V and if you are using it only in the US then it may be a good product but I would prefer the other product as the customer service is better in there. Now, if you will use this in and outside of the states, you should buy a grinder with 100-240V power rating otherwise you will have lots of problems with it. Whatever you do don't buy this from United Tools and Fastener. They have poor customer service. They charged me 9 dollars to have the item shipped to me and 12 dollars for me to have it shipped back to them. Very impolite and argues with the customer a lot! What a total rip off. They do not have Return item option in Amazon so you have to contact them directly. The reason for my return is its power rating is unusable for me on other countries.

Great Product!
I had a seized bolt on my mustang that was rusted and fused to the bolt jacket and were spinning together. The BFH approach didn't work as the bushings absorbed the impact.I knew I had to cut the hardened steel jacket and bolt in order to get the sway bar end-link out, but didn't have any tools capable (i read that a sawz-all wouldn't work), but read an angle grinder would be a good choice.I set out and bought this tool and a metal cutting wheel.I had to cut the bolt in 3 different places before just beating the crap out of the retaining washer with the grinder back and forth before the bolt fell out of the bottom of the control arm... total time it took me from start to finish once I was ready with the grinder:3:30 minutes.Needless to say I was impressed... I'll be keeping this tool around for similar situations! The tool isn't even that loud.

great for home automotive use
Update 4/23/2012: I've been using this tool for a year now and it has died. I tried to turn it on the other day to grind some welds and it wouldn't turn on. Apparently this can be an issue with just the switch itself. it works perfectly fine prior. I don't abuse my tools and I wouldn't say I use it that often. In any case, I'd consider this item an "entry" level dewalt. it worked well but I'm unhappy with the fact that it died. Now I'm looking at the 10amp model or something similar...End UpdateThis is one of those tools i wish i had years ago. I had a cheapo angle grinder I bought from Kragen a few years ago and have also been getting by through the use of my dremel with cutting wheels. I decided to purchase this to tackle the job of cutting my fenders on my cherokee XJ as well as to clean up or prep welds. I purchased the 7amp version (and i might regret and want the 10amp later) but I find this tool to be pretty strong for what it is. it's also very light. I was able to cut the fenders with ease. I find the button to lock the arbor to be a bit strange. it's as if it's made for left handed people?

Not so happy
I own all kinds of DeWalt power tools and have been satisfied with all except this one. It has all the power I needed and everything else works fine but... the switch sticks in the on position. I bought it to use with a wood carving attachment and it does a good job of handling that. I have not had much luck with getting a replacement as yet.
