Handmade in Japan: The Pursuit of Perfection in Traditional Crafts

This title is right up my alley, yet it has not inspired me one bit. The writing is emotionless and, in fact, reads like a superficial textbook for middle-schoolers. It simply doesn’t convey the critical connections of craft, art, meaning, life and lifestyle that I would have hoped for.

This is one of the most beautiful books I have ever come across. If you have an interest in Japanese culture and/or craftsmanship, this book will inspire and educate you through its stories and gorgeous photos. Truly a must have for any Japanophile!

The book is wonderful and highly recommend it. But the packaging used in shipping the book was inadequate and the book arrived via USPS slightly damaged.

Amazing book, I have learned so much about Japanese crafts and culture. I have an interest in Japanese traditions and this book is just perfect. Organized by region and with beautiful pictures, this book has discovered to me so many different traditions and processes. It could obviously be defined as a coffee table book, so you are not going to find any extensive explanations of any of them, but they are anyway beautifully and briefly explained, and they are a wonderful introduction as well as discovery.

Great book for anyone interested in craft from Japan, expensive but we'll worth it with lots of stunning photographys but equally important descriptive text.
