THE NAME OF THE ROSE BLURAY from DAZZLER MEDIA
It has been a long time (well, actually since "War of the Worlds" on BBC) that I have looked forward to a programme so much and been so disapointed. The BLURAY itself is excellent 16.9 ratio showing the photography in all it's sometimes gloomy, but always fascinating, glory. The sound is good as are the optional English subtitles. I am not, as a rule, interested in extras, which, here, is just as well as there are none!. The truth is I just could not get into the plot. Yes, it's complicated, but I can do complicated. I think it was mainly the script - literate, but so slow moving. Purely personal, I found the lack of recognisable actors a distraction - apart from Turturro (anyone else see a rather startling resemblence to our own actor Jack Shepherd (Wycliffe etc?), Michael Emerson, James Cosmo and a scene stealing Everett I just couldn't put a name/face to a character - "Special appearence from Alessio Boni" who did he play? The same goes for the rest of the cast of Italian and German actors, good as they were, and I can't help feeling that is my loss, but that's how I felt. (I did google the IMDP cast list and that helped a bit). The sex scene with Damien Hardung (good) and Maria Scariappa (I think) wasn't as effective or sexy as that in the Connery film. Snow came and went. Sorry, I have gone on too much in the negative. Eps 7 and 8 were very good, and some of the scenes were very powerful, particularly when our Rupe was around. I should add, that my wife loved it and had hardly a bad word to say. So...Before anyone writes a comment...Yes, she has good taste.. The BLURAY gets 5 stars even without extras. The production sadly just 3

A great homage to the book.
A movie, starring Sean Connery, was a bitter dissapointment. But this series is nothing but! Well written, well acted, well done overall. Good job!

Poor screenplay
The plot was jerky, hard to follow, and left many unanswered questions. Perhaps there were just too many parties involved in the production and an inexperienced director. Very disappointing and I agree with the last few reviews.

Fantastic throughly enjoyed the Series.
Super series sometimes deviates from the book big style! I found that relatives were not as involved as myself with the story line. However as a catholic I have engaged more finding out about the history of the catholic church! The revelations have been very revealing! If you enjoyed the Sean Conery film then this puts a few more pieces of meat on the bone. But ........... the Book is the primary source of a good detective story. Read the book then examine the series!

Ideal time filler
Itβs OK but I would not watch it a second time. Ideal Saturday night time filler.

Great story
The acting for this version is much better than the film version. Good story telling.
