An original adventure tying in to the ninth season of Doctor Who, the spectacular hit series from BBC Television, featuring the new 12th Doctor as played by Peter Capaldi. "I do hope you’re all ready to be terrified!" The Phaeron disappeared from the universe over a million years ago. They travelled among the stars using roads made from time and space, but left only relics behind. But what actually happened to the Phaeron? Some believe they were they eradicated by a superior force… Others claim they destroyed themselves. Or were they in fact the victims of an even more hideous fate? In the far future, humans discover the location of the last Phaeron road – and the Doctor and Clara join the mission to see where the road leads. Each member of the research team knows exactly what they’re looking for – but only the Doctor knows exactly what they’ll find. Because only the Doctor knows the true secret of the Phaeron: a monstrous secret so terrible and powerful that it must be buried in the deepest grave imaginable… Review: "This is no longer a spaceship...it's a flying coffin." - Quite enjoyable Doctor Who adventure. Baxendale spins a compelling tale of travelers embarking on a mission to deep space that turns into a struggle to survive. With thrills, chills and a world unlike any other, this is a wonderfully imaginative work. I was particularly impressed with Baxendale's spot-on writing for the Twelfth Doctor - you can hear Capaldi's voice. He also does a great job capturing Clara and creating distinct supporting characters. Well worth a read. Review: Acton packed story. - Great plot in this story. Lots of action. Fun to read.

an exciting doctor who adventure ala the poseidon adventure
this was an excellent doctor who read. as stated in another post i can't really enjoy what they are doing with the doctor on the tv show. but these book adventures are much better. this is kind of a poseidon adventure take with the doctor and clara on an expedition that goes wrong and people get picked off one by one. very exciting and much better than the current tv shows.

Leave Wormholes Alone!!!
Feels just like an episode of the show! With the 12th Doctor being completely clueless about people but so knowledgeable about everything else!! Lol!! And Clara as the voice of reason and emotions translator for the Doctor! The whole thing is fast paced with enough dumb downed science to make sure we understand!

Finely the epic adventure I wanted.
After the disappointing Doctor Who book Royal Blood, I was afraid to read the other new doctor who books. But Deep Time is the a wonderful read. It had mystery, adventure, and romance. The Twelve Doctor and Clara were excellent in this book. It was like an Irwin Alan disaster movie. I hope the next book is good.

Lots of fun.
Lots of fun. Enjoyed by my 12 year old. Could do with a bit more depth to keep older readers engaged.

The story was good, and it was a great premise
The story was good, and it was a great premise. Resembled a Dr. Who episode. However the writing was lacking in substance.

Gut

One time read.
In this book the doctor and Clara find themselves on board a vessel attempting to find out what happened to an ancient species. The book feels like a one time read, and it mostly gravitates around the Glamour.

Varied, interesting, exotic. A great read.
great book. Easy to read, interesting, well paced with plot twists and real exotic landscapes. It starts with a feel of a Victorian murder mystery - a diverse group of strong characters are introduced to each other in a confined space, and various tensions become evident through the comments and conversations. Then the book morphs into a science fiction drama - first drifting in space, then crashing on an alien world and travelling through exotic landscapes - snowfield, jungle, ruined city, derelict spaceship - with many tantalising elements like ghosts and aggressive plants and animals, whilst searching for the lost TARDIS and a shape changing alien object. The sheer variety of locations was exciting, and despite my dislike of the Doctor the characters were great to follow as they dealt with each different challenge. It made me want to look out for the author again, and that is as good a recommendation as you are likely to find!

Atmospheric thriller.
I bought Deep Time, Silhouette, Royal Blood and Engine of War at Christmas for my kids. Engine of War is excellent, Deep Time quite good, Silhouette reasonable and Royal Blood poor. Though often formulaic (expedition members killed one by one in various gruesome manners) the plot is suitably Whovian and develops at a good pace.
