would this be able to be added to propane logs that currently just have a manual on and off switch?

I would assume that you could because the new unit control box has on- off and auto HOWEVER it would naturally be safer to ask a qualified installer e.g. who would normally come in to clean your unit and take readings to make sure your oms and gas pressures etc are correct. I had my totally serviced and cleaned (including washing of filter for non-vented unit)for $125 after receiving my new unit. Also then adjusted fan speed flame height to my liking. Anytime you're dealing with gas/propane it's best to have a qualified person in. It's worth the piece of mind for $125
