Great value when on sale.
Great headphone when connected to a headphone amp. When connected to a MP3 player (iPhone) they sound like trash. Do yourself a favor and buy a cheap Fiio amp to drive these if you plan on using them with your phone. They are the heavyest headphone I own. (BTW not worth the $400 asking price, they are worth the sale price of $80-150.For a $400 set of headphone go look at the B&W P7s.Another great product by Velodyne are the vLeves. Again not worth full asking price but they are nice headphone. For size comparison I placed them next to the popular Logitech G35 7.1 gaming headset in the attached image.

Beautiful, but flawed
Beautiful headphones. Brushed metal on the earcups and rubber-leather on the earpads and headband. Very cool. Shockingly, these are on-ear, not around-ear headphones, the blue cushion inside the earcups is what touches the ears. The brown earpads are just there for show and isolation, not cushioning. Very strange design-choice for such a big and (fairly) heavy headphone. The clamping force is low, but the headband is too thin (you can feel the 2 metal bands inside) and the earcups dont rotate so they will not fit everybody comfortably.Sound quality: fairly good, but overall a foggy and bassy soundpicture. More clarity across the spectrum would have been nice. Furthermore the sound is a little electrical/artificial. Average soundstage and instrument detail in that music stays mainly in your head, it doesn't move around much. Overall they sound more like a 100$ headphone than a 400$ headphone.Logitech UE 6000, Audio-Technica M50, Focal Spirit One, Parrot Zik are more comfortable and sound on-par with these (or better).AKG K550, Bose QuietComfort 15, Skullcandy Aviator sound better.JBL Synchros S700 sound much better.Denon D5000 sound much, much better. The passive noise isolation is pretty good:- better than Logitech UE 6000, Skullcandy Aviator, Denon D5000- on par with Audio-Technica ATH-M50, JBL Synchros S700- not as good as AKG K550, Focal Spirit One- not nearly as good as Bose QuietComfort 15, Parrot ZikThese headphones are special, so definitely try before you buy.Build quality = 3 out of 5Comfort = 2 out of 5Clarity = 2 out of 5Bass = 3 out of 5Noise isolation = 3.5 out of 5

Bad idea, don't buy if you are looking for great sound quality
One of my worst buys on Amazon. I bought 3 of this because I just loved the look and also love big over-ear headphones. For someone who has 6 different headphones and sold quite a number to friends, I was very disappointed with this headphone. It's huge and looks amazing but it all stops there. The sound quality is a mess, it's just plain "plain". Nothing special. This head phone sounds super flat and very ordinary. I was expecting something really grand consider it has an original listing price of about $400; you are only paying for the build. I was disappointed with the output of this device. I have 2 more to sell but can't honestly think of trying to sell this for a nice profit, the sound quality just isn't there. Looks great but sounds like crap. Not worth $30 in sound quality. It's worth a $1000 if you care more about the look, nothing out there looks like itBuild quality = 4 out of 5Comfort = 2 out of 5Clarity = 1 out of 5Bass = 1 out of 5Noise isolation = 1 out of 5Sound-wise, a really bad investment, period.

Great cans for bassheads; others beware
Headphone reviews can be bewildering. One person thinks a headphone is fantastic, while next thinks it's garbage. Are our auditory faculties that disparate? Well, tastes in sound signature do vary; some people want tonal balance, but some are bassheads or treble lovers. But the real problems result from mismatched electronic components. Any high impedance headphone played through a mobile phone is going to sound horrible. Similarly, most computer sound cards deliver sound with flaws that good headphones will only magnify. To truly test headphone quality requires good hifi gear and first rate sound recordings.Don't expect these Velodyne headphones to perform their best driven by your smart phone or laptop computer. Even though the impedance is not high, the vTrues seem to require some additional power via an amplifier to bring out the full sound of which they are capable.Driven and amplified properly, the Velodyne vTrue headphones do a superb job of delivering a rather dark, bass heavy sound signature. In terms of bass, and especially those low, sub bass frequencies, these cans definitely outperform Beats when it comes to sheer bass power. This is not surprising, given Velodyne's reputation as a manufacturer of subwoofers. If you are a listener who really covets that bass rumble, you should consider these headphones. They are made to order for bassheads. The sound overall is big, full, and impactful. On the down side, however, there is a definite rolloff of the higher frequencies. To encourage what most people would consider to be adequate treble performance, some assertive eq adjustment is necessary. Middle frequencies are somewhat recessed, as well. So overall, these headphones are NOT "all arounders," and potential buyers should be aware of this. The ear cups are large and comfortable, and though there is some definite clamping force to one's head, I have found the headphones adequately comfortable. Two cables are provided, one with a remote and one without. There is no case, but a cloth bag is provided.Overall, if you can appreciate headphones that are pretty much "all about that bass," the vTrues at their current price are a veritable steal. Just do not expect them to reproduce all types of music equally well. If your musical tastes run to classical, acoustic, or really any vocally centered genres, you should probably look for a different set of headphones.
