The ultimate compact light with cutting edge output, the NiteCore ec11 is a solid edc with all the bells and whistles of a high end tactical flashlight. Featuring a powerful cree xm-l2 (u2) led, the ec11 is capable of reaching up to 900 lumens of light using an imr 18350 battery. Despite its compact form, this light is capable of throwing a beam an estimated 190 meters, making it perfect for outdoor use. The light output can be adjusted to lower modes making it more suitable for indoor or up close work if desired. The light functions through the use of the unique dual switch design which gives access to multiple lighting modes including a powerful strobe for self defense. One of the unique aspects of the ec11 is that it is mainly powered by an imr 18350 battery. Imr batteries are well known in vaping and e-cig communities for their superior performance and the safety of their chemistry. An imr battery does not require the use of a digital protection circuit that standard lithium ion batteries require, making it both safer and more compact for this slim style edc. The ec11 can also be powered by a standard cr123a battery, and while the performance may not be as high as with the 18350 they are great to keep on hand for emergency situations.

Incredible
Very well made EDC flashlight. Bright with multiple settings. Best feature by far is lockout mode. I own 3.

Perfection...
This little beast is magic. It’s literally as bright as a headlight (give or take 200 lumens) but somehow manages to be smaller than a car key.The construction is beautiful, and I am a big fan of the two button interface. Add in thermal regulation and the “lockout mode” and you have yourself a little piece of pocket sized perfection.

JUNK flashlight
Dead. Lasted 2-days. I tried to replace the batteries and even tried the "insert" adapter that allows for CR123 use (the battery is proprietary). Emailed Nitecore and never got a response. Stuck with this paper weight.

The red light is disappointing
This should really be 3.5 stars, as the normal lighting functions are fine for a torch this size. But one of the big reasons I got this was for the supplemental red light as an alternative for the ultra-low setting. We're big believers in red light in the evening to help with melatonin production, and so it seemed like a nice option to be able to have a red torchlight if you only needed a bit of light at night. But the red is too weak for anything other than looking at objects in your hand or perhaps reading a map or other printed material. It doesn't cast enough light to illuminate your path, unlike the MH27. While what it can do has a non-zero value, it doesn't perform quite as well as I'd hoped. However, the regular torch functions using the main LED work great, and that still makes it a great torch for the laptop bag. It's a good deal smaller and brighter than those cheapie torches I used to get, and although you can't adjust the throw like you could with those, being able to do that was mostly for amusement anyway. Also, you don't have to cycle through the special modes (like strobe) as part of cycling through the brightness settings. This thing did fine in tests around the garden, and the size means it won't take up much space in my bag. Outside of the red light issues above, it's a pretty nice purchase. One thing to bear in mind regarding spare batteries: if you decide you want 18350s to power the torch you probably should consider unprotected cells since the protection circuit makes the battery a bit too long to fully screw on the end cap (at least for the cells that I bought).

superb mini flashlight
So why only 4 stars? Well the User Manual enclosed is in German only. So somebody, perhaps innocently, has diverted German market stock to the UK. I'm entitled to return it but any replacement would probably have the same issue.Anyway its a superb flashlight and I can get an English language User Manual online (most of the instant access modes are intuitive but not red). Partly I wanted a decent CR123A/16340 flashlight in my rotation. OK, its longer than most AAA flashlights (the ridiculously long Lumintop AAA being an exception) and fatter than most AA/14500 flashlights. Its bigger in both dimensions than the Jetbeam Jet II MK CR123A flashlight so there needs to be a reason to want to own it and to EDC it. Three great reasons are single press to 1 Lumen Ultra-Low (update: having read the English language User Manual online, also single press to red), single press to a mind blowing 900 Lumens Turbo (with IMR18350 rechargeable battery) and instant double click to strobe. On reflection I decided the buttons are not tactile enough for gloved EDC use and have returned it.

Small but mighty
This torch was bought to replace a Thrunite scorpion V2. I wanted a small , lightweight torch that would out perform the Scorpion. In terms of light output I'm happy with the torch, but have a few reservations. Firstly I find it's too small, the dimensions are very compact and I find that I struggle with the control buttons on the side of the body. The saving grace with this is that the torch can be set at maximum before it's turned on so I can slightly negate this point. The second is that it get quite hot when used for any length of time. I know the temperature is probably controlled quite well, but having done the usual trick of holding the torch in my mouth whilst performing a task that required both hands it got quite uncomfortable after a few minutes. Finally the batteries are non standard so to speak. I am aware that normal CR123a's can be used, but that the performance is quite poor compared to the rechargeable and high output IMR 18350's. Having said that I am aware that most modern torches need "superbatteries" to make them function most effectively. This torch is well made, very compact and has a very high output. The beam is good, but is not designed to be a long range "thrower".In terms of size it's very very small, but for less money ( but again with a specific 18650 IMR battery) the Thrunite Neutron 2c is less money and a bit better on total output. (I have one of those too so am able to directly compare.). The bottom line is it's a quality item and if you need a very small torch, go for it, but if size not an issue go for a bigger unit.
