Backyard Safari Magnetic Bug Habitat

My sister and I are writing this review so we can tell you that the backyard safari is OK. The magnet wand is pretty bad, and the habitat is much smaller than it looks. The leaf for the water is pretty small, and you need to add your own sticks if you are housing an inchworm or caterpillar. Otherwise, we think this is really good. Your insects will be able to roam freely, and if they want to be alone they can go under the fake log. Also, they get most of their water from leaves, and that is why the water leaf is really small. Also, they can go on the rock and look at everything. The stick is pretty useless, but your insect will probably like to climb it. The magnet wand isn't too bad, and it isn't THAT small. The backyard safari bug habitat can use a little work, but it is much better then where we used to keep are insects! Good job, backyard safari!

My son is a protector of all things! He will try and save everything from a lizard to an ant. I thought he would really like this little bug house. When he received it I first noticed how small it was. Once it was inspected further, I noticed that the clear plastic part was just kind of sitting on top of the green bottom. There is no clip or any way to secure it so you have to pick it up by the bottom. If you want to move the things around for your bugs with the attached magnet, good luck. It is very hard to move any of the pieces around with the magnet, you have to remove the top and if you do that might as well say good bye to your bug pets. I would have rather returned this but my son preferred to just keep it.

The enclosure is fairly small (the clear "lid" is surprisingly short). The magnets are pretty weak and it is difficult to move the pieces around inside. It also lacks a suitable "food/water" dish--you should add one to it in order to not starve your bugs. However, it has been fun to help our daughter get over her bug aversion, as she finds this method of interacting with bugs appealing.

It's a hit! Both my children absolutely love this. They are all over the place looking for cool bugs to place into it. The only thing that would make it better is if the small containers that come with the Bug Vac actually screwed into the station. That isn't a huge deal except that sometimes the bugs want to linger in the tube instead of going into the habitat. My children are pretty little and as such, are still a bit clumsy.Otherwise, it is a great family product that provides hours of entertainment. Well done, Backyard Safari!

Smaller than I thought it would be. And the magnet wand doesn't do very well moving the objects around. You have to pick it up and firmly press the wand against the bottom on order to control the objects inside. Not the best, but my 6 year old boy likes it just fine.

Much smaller than expected. It takes the right amount of pressure with the magnet on the exact spot in the little habitat to get things moving. Other than that, it's a great viewing/holding area for critters.

My son loves bugs and science. So this was a perfect choice for him. He loves it and uses it every chance he has outside.

Lid comes off a little too easy, but great other than that

I bought this for my grandson who seems to be into bugs these days. He just loved it. He caught some wood bugs and there is even a little leaf where he can put a little water for the bugs to drink from. It closes very snugly so no danger of the little creatures coming out either which is a plus for me who does not really like bugs.
