Funny movie
I teach spec Ed and we read War with Grandpa. This movie was 20 times funnier! Normally I like the book better but not this time. Pete has to give up his bedroom to Grandpa and declares war! Grandpa and his friends team up against Pete and his friends in many hilarious battles. My favorite was the dodge ball on the trampolines. So many favorite actors who each bring a funny dimension to this family movie. Maybe not for the little ones but as a parent who watched it-I would let my 8 year old see it.

Get Ready For A Terrific Family Read Aloud Filled With Hilarious Hi-jinks
Get ready for a laugh out loud funny story about a boy who has a war of pranks with his Grandpa, over a bedroom. This is a classic story, published in 1984, and it is still as funny today as it was way back when.Peter, while delighted initially, upon hearing the news that his Grandpa is coming to live with his family soon finds himself in quite a pickle; because Peter’s parent’s end up giving Peter’s bedroom to his Grandpa.Poor Peter is forced to move upstairs into the attic (which is big / old and a wee bit scary). Peter really loves his Grandpa, but he also desperately wants his old bedroom back. So, Peter decided to declare war on his Grandpa, with the help of some friends, thus creating a major prank war between grandson & grandfather. However, Grandpa is tougher than he looks & manages to come up with a good number of pranks himself; because rather than give in Grandpa decides to fight back. The reader will be eager to see who comes up with what prank next – each prank becoming slightly funnier than the last prank pulled.Peter used to be great pals with his Grandpa, but now wonders how far the prank war will go on?This classic story has a terrific ending and is now a major motion picture. So, if you want to find out how the War with Grandpa was settled run out & grab a copy of this book right away.In my opinion, I would advise reading this classic book before seeing the new (updated) movie – because the new movie varies differently than the book.

It is such a joyful, fun, and spirited book. I love it.
I gave this book 5 stars! It is such a joyful, fun, and spirited book. I love it.I bought this book to read to my 11 year old son over his summer break.Peter and his war with grandpa over getting his room back was the cuties story I have read in a very long time. Robert Kimmel Smith does a wonderful job of weaving this tale from beginning to end with such hilarity. My son and I both loved this book immensely. I would recommend this book to anyone child or adult who wants a good laugh. This book is full of them.Along with the hilarity, Smith does an excellent job of intermixing three lessons every child can benefit from learning and every adult could us as a reminder.1. Don’t let others influence how you handle problems in your life and/or with your family. They aren’t living your life.2. War has a way of spiraling out of control. Before you know it everyone is hurt and no one can remember how it started.3. Communication is the key to peace. This was a joy to read with my son and I recommend this quick read for you and your child as well.

Funny
My son did a mini bookclub with his grandfather reading this book. It was a fun read for him and my dad. Now they are going to follow-up by watching the movie. My son is 10 and it kept his interest. The chapters are short and is relatable.

Quick Fun Summer Read
I enjoy using this book for my short summer lit classes. It is a backdrop for fun activities like: writing a declaration of war, writing a Cinquain (using a Thesaurus), practicing writing summaries, sharing personal stories of struggle and growth, and tracking the changes in the characters of both Peter and Grandpa. It has been helpful for some students who have difficulty finishing a book. My students can relate to the pranks, and they change opinions about the characters as the story moves forward. I really enjoy having the conversation with my students about how Grandpa and Peter both defend themselves but also support each other. PS: My grandson loved the book because it "tells the truth about how adults treat kids." :-)

Great book!
I remember reading this book in elementary school and loved it soo much I told all my friends to read it and so it ended up being checked out of our school library several times within a few weeks. So now as a 31 year old, its not my normal read, but it was still a cute story that i think all kids should read and i cant wait to see the movie and read the sequel.

this book was a hard read to get into; even child didn't want to read it and he'd seen the movie first trying to build interest
