Degas at the Opera

This is a great catalog to accompany the "Degas At The Opera," exhibit at the National Gallery of Art. Many good reproductions of the many superb pieces at the exhibit, and several engaging and detailed essays for those who like to read in depth about Degas' life and technique. My only complaint is that the publisher did not use glossy paper---glossy paper like so many other high-end art books do -- because the lack of it causes some of the art pieces to lose their vibrancy even more than is necessary. Still 5 stars!

Fantastic. I saw this exhibition at the National Gallery of Art and enjoyed it very much. Came across this book in the museum shop but didn’t buy then. I regretted it and wanted to get it now. Fastest shipping too.

I saw the exhibition, magnificent and breath taken I could say the best exhibition I have seen so far from Degas' works but the book to me is a total shame to care on the same name of the exhibition. the pictures quality is next to zero. it almost look like a very bad color copy from a news paper. printed in a very low quality paper which made the pictures worst then color books printed out in 60s. and the text is as long as it could get. self indulging people repeating each others and some art historians from past. it seems like this book is all but text which is going on and on and on for ever.very very disappointing.

This book is titled Degas at the Opera, not Degas at the Ballet. In Paris, they are united in one institution, and this book includes four aspects: performance, rehearsal, the orchestra and the audience. Degas is one of the greats. This book has many of his paintings and sketches I had never seen before. It could have had more (or less text), but I don't demand perfection in an art book. Recommended.
