Hefty, smooth-running and good-looking...
I got these GBL Heavy Duty Castors to make an industrial-style coffee table with massively outsized castors supporting a modest tabletop and these really are massively oversized and heavy duty castors. You could just about wheel a small family hatchback around on these, let alone a tabletop. Despite being meant for heavy duty use they look pretty good although the silver paint on the wheels themselves isn't the best and rubs off quite easily. The finish on the fixing plates and forks is better and they'll withstand a bump or seven. The red tyres are hard plastic that's got a little flex and should keep them quiet(ish) on most surfaces - plus they make the wheels look like huge rolls of Christmas sticky tape, which may or may not be of advantage to you.The wheels spin very freely and between the fork and fixing plate is a hefty bearing full of pea-sized greased ball-bearings that keep it spinning freely too. All four of the bolt holes in the plate are slightly oval and will take a sizeable bolt, in fact they'll absolutely require a sizeable bolt obviously, but you don't get any in the box. You get two freewheeling castors and two locking ones and the lock mechanism is clunky-looking but pretty secure. There's a two-part kick plate, one side to lock and the other to unlock, and it's got an easy action that doesn't take a lot of force to engage or disengage but pushes a spring-loaded bolt-head against the wheel to immobilise it. Honestly it's probably not going to stop your small family hatchback from rolling down a hill but it'll stop it skating across the garage. Overall they're really solidly made and, if it matters to you, a good-looking set of super-hefty castors and though they're not cheap they should last decades with a bit of care.

Big and powerful, built like a tank
GBL Heavy Duty Castor Wheels with 2 Brakes + ScrewsWhen the delivery driver struggled up my drive with this very heavy box, I realised that there must be some seriously substantial wheels inside. I did wonder how strong these would be as the listing claims they are capable of taking up to 1280KG in weight, that's almost 1.3 tons if using all 4 wheels! Each wheel is capable of handling 320kg.I have to say, these are the most powerful castor wheels that I have come across. The wheel itself is made from heavy cast metal, with a thin polyurethane rubber moulded tyre. The wheel support is made from 5mm thick steel plating, this is securely welded to the upper bearing, which in turn is attached to the 5mm thick mounting plate. The wheel is secured to the support bracket via a very large industrial bearing, similar to that which can be found in a road vehicle. The top bearing that supports the mounting plate is also heavy duty, it also has a grease point to allow for keeping the bearing lubricated. The listing describes the main use for these as being for furniture, to be honest these are a little mighty for furniture in my opinion. The wheels would be more suited for industrial or garage use, maybe used on an engine trolley or heavy duty factory basket. Indeed anything which is intended to carry a heavy weight. The asking price of £89.99 at first seems a little expensive, but believe me, these are worth every penny. The caster wheels are the strongest most powerful caster wheels that I've come across. I cannot imagine these failing at any point providing they are maintained. The listing mentions that screws are included, I found no screws in my box, just the 4 caster wheels.Highly Recommended!CONTENTS:2 x Front Wheels2 x Rear Wheels With BrakeThank you for reading my review, I hope you have found it helpful.

Wheels of Steel Indeed – Fantastic Build Quality and Value
I wanted to build a bogie of sorts to help move things around in the house and possibly garden, both of which we are slowly renovating. These castor wheels came up and looked pretty solid so were ordered.I was astonished when they arrived as they are probably twice as big as I had though – my own fault for not reading the full specification. The box they arrived in was 20 x 25 x 24cm and weight a not inconsiderable 14.5kg – so not only are they large but each weighs a considerable 3.4kg for a non brake and 3.54kg for the brake variety, a beast of a set of castors for heavy duty work. The fixing plate is 115 x 100 x 5mm plate steel, and supports the ball bearing loaded swivel mount which has it’s own greasing point, the red Polyurethane solid tyres are 152mm in diameter, 50mm wide and 7mm thick on a 3mm thick mounting edge on the rims which are able to rotate 360° with no sticking. Two of the castors are free running and there are two brake enabled press on, and off castors supplied in the set.The initial bogie idea has been re-evaluated and I am now building a platform which these wheels deserve that will make use of their astonishing load bearing capability of 1280kg. I will try to post up a picture when the new materials arrive to complete the project. Wheels of steel indeed, fantastic build quality and value from GBL, and with a free lifetime warranty!
