Jumanji: The Next Level [DVD] [2019]

Good film and a clever move forward of the Jumanji franchise
Both films in this current series with DJ and Jack Black are really good. The idea of the real characters turning into avatars that are completely different is so clever and brings the franchise up to date in terms of current gaming. We played both films to a friend who said she just wouldn’t have bothered with them. She loved both of course. Cleverly written, good CGI but not too much of it (as so often happens with modern films) and a pretty decent story. We have watched them several times already. Good entertainment. I do hope they make more like this.

GREAT-FUN
Have noticed that there are a few that have criticised the fact that there is no3-D version of the film being released, well, seems to me that very few are thesedays , truth is, 3-D didn't really take-off this time around, though am sure an improvedversion will emerge at some point in the not too distant future.Seems to me that 4K is also struggling to get going, although I myself do now have 4KTV and player, think I'll be very picky over what to invest in movie-wise, probably inaction and special effects treat's, I feel in general thatthe 4K releases are pretty expensive, puts people off buying in many cases. The film itself -Was a bit sceptical about how another sequel would pan-out, thought maybe as Hollywoodso often do, might have taken it a step too far.Well, the team are back -Three years after their Jumanji experience plans are made for a reunion meet-up,though leading very different lives these days Fridge, Bethany and Martha show-up,however, Spencer, wary of a meet-up doesn't, instead in the cellar of his grandfathershouse, Spencer digs out the Jumanji Game intending to return to the mythical kingdom. The others curious as to why Spencer didn't show go to Eddie's (Danny Devito) houseto find out why but discover their old-friend not there, they quickly realise he'd goneback into the game, after much doubt, the three will try to follow....the game leavesBethany behind but takes Fridge and Martha along with Spencer's grandfather and oldfriend Milo back to Jumanji.Again they find themselves in very different characters to their own reality, Eddie becomesBravestone (Dwayne Johnson) Martha as Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan) Bethany asOberon (Jack Black) and Milo as Mouse (Kevin Hart) but where is Spencer? who they'dreturned to help.Again with just three-lives, they discover that to get out of the game again they mustrecover the 'Falcon Jewel' which had been stolen from its keeper by the evil war-lordJurgen the brutal.Whilst the Jewel remains stolen Jumanji has been thrown into drought, only beingintroduced to sunlight will things return to as they were.Well the adventure begins, each will lose lives as they venture into the desert, a remotetown and eventually to Jurgen's lair. Will the team find Spencer along the way?Again a silly far-fetched storyline with puns and gag-lines a-plenty as the taleunfolds, even the opportunity for humour isn't missed during their desertexperience with bars of the Lawrence of Arabia theme bouncing in and outof the sequence.Silly, yes, but again entertaining with plenty to bring a smile or two....Am pretty sure this won't be the last one in the series.

A good fun fantasy.
Lotsafun ! A good tale, well told and well directed with a great mix of people. Not to give away any spoilers but the way the characters are mixed up and are obliged to interact is very entertaining. They are developed well by all the principle actors. Even the deaths are fun. All in all a good fun romp with no lack of top special effects; not to be taken too seriously but it kept a smile on my face throughout.I look forward to the next one.

Fairly enjoyable sequel, not up to the level of the first
I had enjoyed the last Jumanji movie so was looking forward to this sequel, overall I found it quite enjoyable but it did not match up to the level of the first one. They had clearly tried to keep much of what made the first movie enjoyable with a few twists, new characters and actors to give some suprises but, for me, it felt a bit too formulaic. If I dad bought this when it first came out I would have been more disapointed but for the price it was an ok way to spend some time.
