Perfect
I used this to replace a starter on a 1997 4runner auto v6 4x4. This one is the larger variant. Everything I read said mine should have the larger starter but the one I took out was the smaller one. Maybe somebody replaced it in the past with the smaller one. Anyways this one works and bolts up fine. I noticed the engine spins a little faster on startup so I'm glad I got this one. I did have some trouble getting it into the location past the frame rail and exhaust. I spent over an hour one night trying different orientations to get it in and couldn't. It was very frustrating. The next day I watched a video online and held the starter exactly how they did in the video and it went right in. It feels like a bit of a puzzle.

2000 4runner
Bought this because of course it’s Denso. Prepare to spend a few hours of your day trying to wiggle this big thing back into your engine bay. An absolute pain trying to replace this because the engine bay gave very little room, however unbolting it was super easy. It’s been roughly a month and each start up is smooth and quick. A huge difference compared to the old one

Exactly like the OEM
I replaced the original starter on my 2001 4 runner and did a side by side comparison. It is exactly the same. Bolted in with no issues. Started right up

Came quickly, looked brand new, hooked right up this afternoon and fixed my problem. Time will tell on how long it lasts but am happy with it!

Install a pain but product worked great.
Have lots of 3/8 extensions with a 360 rotating socket or you're going to have a hard time uninstalling and installing. Unit worked great 5/5 stars

Perfect replacement on the 3.4l v6
This starter works perfectly on my 3rd gen 1999 Toyota 4Runner 3.4l V6 4x4 auto trans. It should be noted that some 4Runners come with a smaller starter. This is the larger one that comes on most. There is really no difference between the two except one is meant for cold weather. The starter came in a Denso box and looked brand new. I didn't want anything but OEM Denso on my truck and this was perfect. No core charge! The install went alright. I didn't have to take any other items off to get this starter in, except the transmission dipstick which was held in by one bolt. Loosen the brake line bracket that is directly to the side of the starter (looking from the passenger side fender) so you can wiggle it around. It took me about 1.5 hours, taking my time.Word of advice get many ratchet extensions so you can get a decent angle on the two bolts that hold the starter in and look at some YouTube videos. A swivel elbow socket definitely helps but is not needed. I had about 2 feet of ratchet extensions to give me some leverage. If your truck lives in the Rust Belt then may luck be with you. Overall I am very happy with this starter, I will update my review if it ever fails prematurely.

Exact replacement for my 1999 limited runner
She fires up quick now boys!Great replacement and a lot cheaper than the dealer or lordco. By about $80-$100.This is a job that can either take 2 hours or 24hours while you leave it disassembled in the garage to find the right tools… So best of luck to you.Whoever replaced it last in my truck seriously over torqued it to the bell housing. I ended up rounding the top bolt and had to pick up a set of these special sockets(highly recommend them as well)Cheers
