Easy recipes
I really like this book of recipes for the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. There is detailed but not overwhelming information about the diet at the beginning. Having the quick overview chart of what are legal and illegal foods is a great tool. The recipes encompass many ethic styles which is enjoyable. They are easy to follow and many have great photos. The baked goods have been well recieved by my family who have balked at many of the baked good options in eating gluten free for years. The focaccia is delicious and spicy herbed cheese crackers I've been told are a keeper. These recipes gave me the tools and courage to make the final transition to grain free and I have already seen wonderful health changes. I am looking forward to working my way through the many recipes within this book.

Recipes to live on.
Everything I have made from this cookbook has been fantastic! We LOVE the butternut squash hazelnut muffins, the hazelnut pancakes, the Asian sauce. We started SCD 4 weeks ago and I broke down and cried because it was so difficult. Having this cookbook as well as a couple others has allowed me to make this transition without our family complaining. They have told me that we have been eating far better, more delicious meals since we started this diet than we were before! The baked goods have made our lives simple and prevented the cravings for rice and breads. I can't believe all the flavorful things I can make so easily with a food processor and an oven. We haven't missed the starches. We fight over the baked goods. We eat every serving of the meals. Every one of our guests has asked for the recipes.

Flavorful Recipes to Liven Your Diet
To start, let me say I am the partner of someone on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (for Crohn's Disease) but all my dinners are SCD-friendly. I can eat non-SCD foods but, since I started using the recipes from this book, I don't miss them terribly much. The dishes are really, really tasty!Considering I've made twelve recipes so far (see the following list), I think I've reached a point where I can judge this book: Kung Pao Chicken, Mom's Stuffed Chicken, Beef and Broccoli Chinese-Style, Bulgogi Wraps, Vietnamese Pork with Shiitake, Mock Fish Sauce, SCD Asian/Soy Sauce, Mom's Tomato Sauce, Eggplant Parmesan Bake, "Pasta-less" Lasagna, Angie's Vinaigrette and Parmesan and Walnut Crusted Chicken. The quality of the recipes is fairly consistent: of the above 12 recipes, I'd say two were just *meh* (Kung Pao Chicken and Beef and Broccoli), two were fantastic (Bulgogi Wraps and "Pasta-less" Lasagna) and the other eight were good. I'm docking half a star due to the *meh* recipes.Insofar as difficulty, some recipes require finessing--for example, when I put the beef for the Bulgogi Wraps into the skillet after marinating, there was too much liquid, so I removed the beef, reduced the liquid to a thicker consistency, then added the beef back in. Generally things don't get TOO challenging, though. I'm docking another half star due to the finessing requisite. The book has a lovely introductory part/overview of the diet which helped me feel like the author is knowledgeable and on my side, so to speak. The author also goes out of his way to make sure your health is kept intact; for example, there are footnotes on certain recipes stating to wait a certain period of time until symptoms have stopped before trying them.To the reviewer who said you need special ingredients like SCD Yogurt, etc. to make most of the recipes, that is demonstrably false. It is necessary for SOME recipes, but certainly not for the majority. All in all, I absolutely recommend this cookbook. You will not regret purchasing it.

Best Recipes Ever!
I am new to the SCD and I wasn't sure which cookbook to invest in first. I was immediately intrigued with the diverse recipes in this book and eager to try them. At this point I hadn't even read Breaking The Viscious Cycle by Elaine Gottschall but much of the basic information is already in this cookbook so I plunged in and tried a new recipe every day for two weeks and I was more than satisfied with the results. My husband even enjoyed eating fresh, wholesome foods prepared this way. My favorites are the Hazelnut-Vanilla Pancakes and I always fall back on the Scottish shortbread when I need a dessert on short notice. I decorate it with fresh fruit and yogurt. Very satisfying. My digestive system has never worked so well and a few of the recipes are now a permanent part of my culinary repertoire. These are truly some of the best recipes ever!

excellent cookbook
I am a coeliac, and my husband is a diabetic with alot of digestive issues. I have researched Elaine Gottschall's work and am keen to get started with the SCD for both of us.This recipe book is just a delight, it is well set out, has amazing recipes that taste just divine, and they are culturally diverse so you can vary your daily meals with no problem. I am also dairy intolerant though, so that is going to be a challenge as alot of the recipes use dairy. I can use yoghurt occasionally, but I have to limit my intake of it.My husband was a bit hesitant when I explained to him that he would need to follow the SCD for a minimum of 12 months, but after I showed him this recipe book (he loves to cook) and has tasted some of the recipes, he is more than happy to start this journey with me.I recommend this highly to everyone. It is not just a recipe book for SCD, it is a recipe book for life!!!

Makes you happy and well fed!
This is an amazing and appetising cookbook, which makes you feel very happy to have found the SCD Diet. The author is highly knowledgeable about SCD-legal/safe foods and frequently provides explanations to help you navigate ingredients and recipes. The recipes are numerous but also very approachable/doable. The author is careful to provide only SCD safe ingredients and methods. Highly recommend!
