Shackles

This movie is a fantastic dramatization of everything that is wrong in the penal system in America and how it can be turned around. I am a foster parent. My kids did not go to prison. But without our social support system they likely would have - not just our family, but all of our friends, our church, our colleagues at our university (my wife and I both have PhDs and are professors). Now many of our faculty have become foster parents and we work with LA County Department of Children and Family Services to bring opportunities. But not every child gets adopted. And 8 out of 10 end up dead, in prison or homeless within two years of aging out. We need education in our juvenile facilities. We need funding to hire the best and the brightest teachers. Change a generation, change America. Thank you for making this film. Here is one concrete way we can overcome systemic racism. End prisons for profit, and put these juvenile offenders first - they can succeed if someone believes in them.

D.L.'s outstanding acting chops are on full display in this must-see film. He plays Ben Cross, a teacher with a violent past who is given a second chance to teach poetry and math to his new students -- inmates in prison. D.L. is so convincing as a passionate teacher who will go to any length to reach his students that it's not even comparable to the caliber of acting in the box office hit "The Brothers". I don't think any of the stars in "The Brothers" can act at the level that D.L. does in "Shackles". It's too bad that "Shackles did not receive the attention it deserved back in 2005 when it was released. Perhaps Amazon's showcase of "Shackles" as a prime movie, will finally bring some long overdue acclaim to this truly exceptional movie with the spectacular acting by D.L. Hughley and Jose Pablo Cantillo.

This movie speaks volumes

I love anything that DL hughley does so i won't give my of his work a bad review. The movie is definately for teens or adults as it has lot of violence.

Met the actor Jose Pablo Cantillo and needed to catch up on his work. This film is great. He's a great actor. Product was as described. Thank you.

My husbands third favorite movie

A very interesting movie not something you'd expect from Hughley as he's known for his comedy. This is way out of his comfort zone, a must see. I came acros this movie by chance and would recommend to my family and friends.

This is a good film based around a teacher in a jail who has his own issues to deal with as well as helping the inmates. Very goid
