My Imitation of Christ

I have only begun to read this book so I can’t give it an honest review yet but so far it is great. I will come back later and add to my review once I finish but highly recommend it. All the books in this series are very good. The wording is a little different and some may have a hard time understanding it.

This is a beautiful edition if the classic, Imitation of Christ. The translation is wonderfully archaic, and the illustrations are beautiful. However,there is something that I feel I have to say. This book was written primarily with cloistered monks in mind, so obviously there will be some parts that may be irrelevant to us Christians "in the world." For example, chapter 8 states:"Be not familiar with any woman; but recommend all good women in general to God."Obviously a married man can't really take this advice. But in spite of these "irrelevant" sentences here and there, this book is still filled with lots and lots of practical wisdom for any Christian of any age in any state of life (married, single, etc).

Beautiful booklet, read it everyday for guidance and meditation.

The subtle yet profound grace of which the devotional speaks reminds me that my ego has no place in my walk with Christ. When the world seems like is growing crazy, the devotional brings me back to center. No substitute for the Eucharist, though.

One of the greatest instruction manuals on developing deep spirituality--so many Catholic saints have used it to accompany their prayers and worship. A true classic. Easy to read, understand, and follow. I try to read a little daily. Really helps to feel God's presence (His peace and joy).

I purchased this book to replace an old copy that I've had for ages. This is an exact duplicate of that book. I also love the numerous engravings by Ariel Agemian which really enhance the meditative quality of the book. I've often turned to this book in times of confusion and trouble and I've never been disappointed with the reading recommendations that are in the Reading Guide in the back. This is a must have for any Christian who wants to lead a life that emulates the life of Christ. I highly recommend it.

If you’re a devout catholic who wants to reflect on the way Jesus thought, taught and lived, reading a chapter of this book a night isn’t a bad idea.

I don’t know what rock I’ve lived under as I only found out about this book from the Pray40 Challenge in the Hallow App. However since getting it and feeling the impact it’s made already in my life I’ve repurchased it a number of times to send out as gifts. The lessons and reflections (even though written in the 15th Century) are so relevant for each of us today. And this Pauline edition has been written with the modern reader in mind without losing an iota of the original text. I’m digesting it a chapter a day and on same chapters I need a couple of days to really let the message sink in. This is not a book you can read cover to cover as any other book. To make this book make sense and change your life, you have to let its words marinate in your heart. Believe me. It’s powerful.

love the pocket size, great to carry around on public transit in my bag to pull out for reading where ever I am.the faux leather makes it a pleasure to hold. The short chapters make it great to easily start and stop to pick up later.
