Lady Ice

I was about 10 years younger than southerland, I think, living in miami at that time. But, it's not just the familiar, but nearly lost recollections of a time and place and culture; its a darn good movie. No one's really pretending to be acting all that much, the writing is actually interesting right around the diving scene, and the varied scenery is great. And as someone mentioned the cars are hot. It's in a genre of gamesmanship films; among the players, there are just winners and losers and one unfortunate casualty as a result of too much zeal displayed by the one gangster in the game. I think Donald Sutherland was tripping most of the time.

So the movie is watchable but just why the lady would fall for the investigator loses me.The Cars and Miami here carry the movie. The Ghilbi Spyder and 365 GTB/4 aka Daytona chasescene is fun. The Ford Mustang is almost ubiquitous in Lady Ice and we see away more obscureTravco 270 motorhome used well. The exotic cars of the era are all over this film and if you area car fan we have a watchable move with some amazing cars stealing the scenes.As far as the movie goes, I have not figured out who was just luck, who triple crosses who, andfinally just where the cash goes in the end.

First of all I had this movie saved on my list.. Decided to take the plunge and watch it tonight while I munched on french fries. Jennifer O'Neill began her career as a model in the 1960's onward to the 1970's. She had a long standing contract with cosmetic giant "Cover-Girl"... Actor Donald Sutherland handsome and suave as ever..played the insurance guy. The jewelry in the movie was furnished by "Neiman Marcus" ...Miami ,Florida in the 1970's was stylish and very sedate...today I wouldn't give it a thumbs up either.. The script,the locations and yes the jewelry kept me interested ...what I enjoyed earlier in the movie was..the Fat guy swallowing down the shrimp..then being forced to strip.. Then suddenly ..there it was..! The beautiful necklace ..OMG...If I could revisit that decade ..in person actually ..? Well ..maybe not ?? The movie was pretty good...and the cast seemed comfortable together..

...after watching too much 70s stuff, and then sort of taking all the cliches, arranging them in a minimal if functional plot structure, robbing them of any elaboration, and pushing everything in the movie into subtext... not that it was deep, just buried and abstract.Which I found surprisingly enjoyable.Save for one scene that had no point and was just a bit ugly to no point, with no impact... though that did increase the 'I don't think this is a real movie' effect. That, and the weird tail of the ending, where the acting even broke down, and it was just... what?Very dated, not complex, stilted, inexplicable at times, and yet somehow just (mostly) charming.

...and the low quality and lack of dynamic range (seriously, just the shadows on a few of the Miami Beach hotels in the opening credits turn them solid black) look as if they're off a bad 1990's standard def broadcast.You can also hear the filters used to clean up the audio cutting in and out.This one is a no-brainer - spring for the Scorpion remastered Blu-Ray release.

...I can't.What to say about Lady Ice?I was surprised [maybe not] that this film was as lame as it was. While the scenery was nice to note [Miami in the 70s] the plot and story were far too predictable. A lady jewel thief and the guy who wants her and the 'ice'? Ho hum. Then again, one shouldn't expect anything but an escapist lark with very BAD acting. I wonder if the material was the only stuff that Tom Gries could get his hands on, or if better material was simply not there. He had done far better before this. Bankrolling this film seems such a waste of money compared to other projects he has directed. I suppose that the studio and producers thought it would take off. Problem is, it had fatal flaws that killed it upon release.It was nice to see Eric Braeden BEFORE his soap-opera days. The fellow was [and is] quite a looker. I doubt he'd be able to pull such a role off now, being so typecast into his Y&R role. Too bad his character here was two-dimensional. Seeing a young Robert Duvall was a hoot. Hard to imagine how far both actors have come from there. While I have never cared for Jennifer O'Neill or Donald Sutherland, they both tried to do the best with what they had at hand. All of them TRIED to make this work. One wishes it could have. This could be a 'ripe-for-remake' movie if the story was reworked and a stiff dose of reality gets thrown in.Definitely NOT for anybody who can't stomach such a dated production. I wound up donating my copy to a local library.

Not a great film but quintessential 1970's and any film starring Donald Sutherland, Jennifer O'Neill and Perry Lopez is worth watching. A meandering diamond heist movie with lots of little bits that add to the overall atmosphere.

A bit to convoluted and disconnected.Although there are some entertaining scenes in the movie it just dosent quite work.

Aquí naufraga con una historia confusa, mal escrita y peor narrada, carente de todo interés, a no ser por el carisma de Donald Sutherland. En cualquier caso el actor parece perdido y sin saber muy bien qué hacer con un personaje inconsistente y falto de toda verosimilitud. Jennifer O'Neill espléndida, por hermosa, pero con un personaje tan imposible como el de su compañero.Pero si la película es floja, la puntuación tan baja que le he endosado no se debe a sus escasos méritos artísticos, sino a la aberrante edición que ha sacado a la venta la empresa Resen. No respeta el formato original de la cinta, que debería ser 2.35:1, y se presenta en el televisivo 1.33:1 (salvo los títulos de crédito iniciales y finales), resultando su visionado una experiencia aún más confusa y cabreante de lo que uno podría imaginar. El DVD, que en su día se publicitó como el formato definitivo para el vídeo doméstico, se ha revelado al cabo de los años, y debido a editores sin escrúpulos como el arriba citado, en una nueva tabla de charcutero donde descuartizar películas. Una verdadera guarrería.

リージョンフリーのブルーレイですので、我が国のレコーダーでも鑑賞可能。但し、日本語字幕はありません（英語字幕はあり）。特典は音楽を担当したPerry Botkin Jr.のインタヴューと劇場用予告編が収録されていますが、本作の予告編はなく、以下の作品の予告編が収録されています。ジェニファー・オニール主演の"The Psychic"、アリステア・マクリーン原作の「デンジャー・ポイント」、「雨のロスアンゼルス」、マイケル・ヨーク主演の"Conduct Unbecoming"。謎のホラー映画"Doctor Death: Seeker of Souls"、リン＝ホリー・ジョンソン主演の「ボーイハント」。本作は国内でソフト化されておらず（アマゾンさんで「ダイヤモンド・コネクション」で検索するとVHSテープが表示されるが本作とは別物）、今のところ日本では本ブルーレイを購入するしか鑑賞方法はない。ドナルド・サザーランドの探偵役と言えば真っ先に思い出されるのが「コールガール」のクルート。海外用宣伝文句にも"Klute"の文字が入っているくらいですから。しかし「コールガール」で演じた探偵は実直でクール、それでいてハートウォーミングな部分もあって彼の若かりし頃の当たり役と個人的には思っています。一方今作の探偵アンディ・ハモンはいい加減で女好き、パット見は『こいつの方が悪党っぽいじゃん』と思える胡散臭さを好演してます。でも私はクルートの方が好きですが。どうしようもなく太ったサラリーマン風の男がマイアミ国際空港からタクシーに乗ってホテルへ向かう。するともう1人の男が百貫デブ（死語？）を追うようにしてタクシーに乗りこんだ。百貫デブはどこぞへ電話をした後、早速ルームサービスで『1人でこんなに食べんの？しかも甘い物が多いなぁ』と心配になるほどの食事を注文。さぁ食べるかと思ったところへもう1人の男が乱入。この男こそアンディであった。どうやら百貫デブが盗品宝石の運び屋らしく、最近多発する宝石盗難事件を追うためにアンディは保険会社に雇われていたのであった。百貫デブの持ち物を一通り探してみたが盗品は見つからない。アンディは百貫デブを裸にさせ、首からぶら下げていた100万ドル相当のダイヤのネックレスを見つける。百貫デブが『おいら組織に消されちゃうよ。頼むから勘弁してくれよ』と懇願するが、素知らぬ顔で去っていくアンディ。ここまでで映画が始まり約9分。『なんか面白くなりそうだなぁ』と言う雰囲気だけは感じさせてくれる。しかし結局は最初の雰囲気だけで、ここから先は一向に盛り上がらない。一応サスペンス・アクションの体裁なんだから、ハラハラドキドキさせられたり、手に汗握るアクションを楽しめるのかと期待したのだが、全くの期待外れに終わってしまった。まぁ監督がB級以下専門のトム・グライスなんで一抹の不安はありましたけど、不安的中です。73年当時の作品なら考えられる型通りのアクションシーンはすべて盛り込まれていますが、切れがなくもたついていてちっとも爽快感がありません。カーチェイスは2度ありますが、迫力なし。銃撃戦及び殴り合いに関しても同様。アンディが暴漢2人にボコられるシーンなんて大して強そうもない相手に『弱すぎるじゃん、アンディさん』ってな感じです。特別捜査官役のロバート・デュヴォールは当時「組織」、「バッジ373」で主役を演じ貫禄を示していたのに、本作では精彩なし。主人公の引き立て役にもなっておらず、何の為に出演したのか甚だ疑問。まぁロバート自身が悪い訳ではなく、監督の演出の拙さが原因かもしれませんが。強盗団の一味で紅一点のジェニファー・オニールは相変わらず美しいですが、この人は「おもいでの夏」の清楚な若奥さん役の印象が強く、こういうアバズレ役はどうもピンとこない。しかも舞台はマイアミでかつアバズレ役なので、小麦色に焼けた肌を露出するようなセクシーな衣装を着たり、ビキニの水着姿を披露したりして頑張っているのですが、肝心な所は見せない。スケベおやじにとってはどうにも煮え切らないところがイマイチですねぇ。個人的には本編よりも特典映像の方（インタヴューはPerryさんの音楽家としての思い出話が主）が印象に残る結果となりました。
