Military Aircraft (Visual Encyclopedia) Review: Thorough Collection - I knew next to nothing about military aircraft before buying this book. My eleven year old son dreams of being a pilot and collects every book on flight or planes he can. I gave him this book for a Christmas present. He lovingly tucked it into his stash, read it in bed, and even carried it with his many Lego volumes. (That is HIGH praise right there!) I have since learned much more about military aircraft! The book is large enough to give him hours of reading. The pictures are clear and detailed. My only complaint is I wish it had a hardcover option. I see clear packaging tape or contact paper in this book's future. ;-) Review: Pretty Good - I liked the different variants of the same plane and jets ( ex, F-4. Phantom II ) , also like that you showed the aircraft that took part in different conflicts like aircraft was used both sides of wars like Allies vs Axis, so well done

Comprehensively detailed, illustrated, deluxe
Continuing his tradition of writing aviation books, Jim Winchester illustrates military aircraft with detailed artwork, specifications, and brief details in this guide, arranging them chronologically by theater or type. One aspect of this book that was lacking in Enzo Angelucci's book on military aircraft is the inclusion of the Myasishchev M-50 Bounder, but also the latest air superiority fighters built by the US and Europe and experimental VTOL aircraft. But again, this book doesn't include helicopters, even though it includes tiltrotors.

Fanastic book for young and old alike
This is a great book. It has pictures of every plane and also detailed information about each of them. If you have a younger non-reader, the pictures alone make it a great book to have. But it's also great for those kids (or adults) who like lots of facts. This gives a ton of them!

Another Great Title
This book has amazing illustrations and info about hundreds of aircraft. We also purchased the Boat book. They are both excellent books to flip through and enjoy!

Son has loved military aircrafts for years
Son has loved military aircrafts for years. We had checked this out at our local library many times. and no matter how many times he has read through it, we still find him with his nose in it!

Arrived a little beaten up.
I don't recall buying "used", but it was seemingly so, upon arrival. I love this book though.

Todo perfecto, lo único que al ser de segunda mano la parte de la contraportada estaba un poco más deteriorada , pero por eso me costó a ese precio.

Not Bad.. Cover's quite a few major military aircraft type from WWI to the 21st century, but I expected it to be A WHOLE LOT BETTER due to the following reasons: 1) Some of the illustrations are really blurred hazy, and of poor quality.. Older aviation books like "Flying Colors"by William Green & Gordon Swanborough (1997) and "Military Aircraft Markings and Profiles" by Barry C. Wheeler (1990) have finer quality illustratioins. 2) There are technical errors present.. one such example is that the "F-22A Raptor can carry 6 AIM-120 ASRAAMS" according to this book. This is incorrect because the ASRAAM missile is designated 'AIM-132' and is a heat seeker and carried only by Western European Fighters like Eurofighter Typhoon & SAAB Gripen. The AIM-120 Is called the AMRAAM and is a radar guided missile. 3) in the 'Spanish Civil War' section a Polikarpov 1-16 is shown in Soviet markings but the caption indicates that the aircraft was used by the Spanish Republican Air force... So why wasn't the aircraft given in Spanish markings rather than Soviet? After all it is placed in the Spanish civil war section.. 3) Numerous spelling and grammatical errors are present throughout the book.. 4) Many illustrations of the same aircraft in the same markings/paint scheme are repeated more than once 5) Certain iconic aircraft are not present like the F6F Hellcat used by The U.S. Navy in the Pacific war, (Although a Royal Navy variant is present the Hellcat made its debut in the US Navy service during the Pacific battles of WWII). Other missing aircraft that should have been there include the later marks of the Spitfire (Griffon engined variants), Sukhoi T-50 PAK-FA 5th gen fighter, AV-8B Harrier II Plus, F-35 JSF to name a few... 6) Many older aircraft from the '50's and the '60s are entered in the Modern aircraft section.. especially the convertiplanes 7) Arrangement of aircraft according to theatre isn't proper.. There are many repetitions.. a better way to do it would have been to arrange them alphabetically according to era i.e. WWI , A-Z, Arrangement WWII, (A-Z Arrangement) and so on.. Given the above issues the book seems monumentally overpriced ( USD $ 63.74).. it's robbery!!!
