WARN 38842 Winch Accessory: Solenoid Control Pack for M4500, M5000, M8000, XD9000 Winches

I have an ancient (c. 1975) Warn 8072 winch that I could not get working. The motor is good, but the problem lay either with the solenoids and/or with the remote. I tried replacing the solenoids with some that had a similar appearance, but still no good. I finally gave in and bought the replacement control pack. This unit is designed for the 8472, but amazingly it works flawlessly with the prior generation winch. Disconnect the wires; swap out the control pack; reconnect the new wires. Boom; ready to rock. Really easy. However I will advise caution when tightening the nuts on the terminals - I used the existing power cable which is 1/0 instead of the one provided with the unit (2 gauge). Because of the angle, the thicker wire put a lot of stress on the solenoid terminal and caused it to break out of the plastic housing. I was kind of disappointed, but it was at least 80% my fault. I was able to find a replacement solenoid for the broken one on Amazon for $24; free shipping; no tax. I swapped out the broken solenoid and used the provided 2 gauge cable. I tested the winch while spooling a new cable ( also bought on Amazon); works perfectly. A replacement 8472 winch is $1800, so the cost of this control pack was well worth it.

I have chosen this item as this is the unit that came with the winch when purchased back in 1994 The control box is exactly the same as the original unit, and is well suited to the xl 9000.

Did not work right out of the box. Worked One Direction only. Still waiting on second one.

this is very handy. it is expensive but bolts right up and ive had another one of this on my winch for more the 10 years, and still going strong

Exactly as it says. Comes with the same remote as shown in product picture. It's a Warn product, it works..
