It is not a comprehensive history (it selects certain battles and time periods), but they are well selected across a large period of history and well worth the price of the text (which was also pleasantly discounted on desertcart). The illustrations/photos are very interesting and well presented in the text. I have just started reading it and am pleased with buying this book. It seems to have a much stronger representation of earlier periods of history, the bronze age through World War II---so if you are hoping for more modern military history, seek another book. It is not a comprehensive history (it selects certain battles and time periods), but they are well selected across a large period of history and well worth the price of the text (which was also pleasantly discounted on Amazon). My son loved these books as a kid and we always got the hard cover book. I was a little woried that some of the wonder might be lost in a paperback version and it is just as amazing! The photos and descriptions used to keep him engaged for hours with his fascination for history and even though his is now 32, he will love this book.
