Business Balance
A balanced view of enthusiasm for entrepreneurial business...is what this book provides. The purpose is to help provide people who are considering building a new business enterprise, with some thought tools to apply to their specific situation. The only mystery to me is why he continually refers to "serious entrepreneurs"...all entrepreneurs that I have met are, by definition - serious! That aside, a good read before you jump in to a business.

Excellent book
I purchased this book for my MBA class. It’s very interesting and explains how certain companies made mistakes and learned from them.

Great book for testing your idea.
This book is the best of the business books I reviewed for ideas on how to help approach the research and analysis for my business idea. It's more aimed at folks with business ideas that are geared to being large scale enterprises rather than a small individual proprietiorship . This book is the best of the business books I reviewed for ideas on how to help approach the research and analysis for my business idea. It's more aimed at folks with business ideas that are geared to being large scale enterprises rather than a small individual proprietorship. Most of the "How to write a business plan" books are worthless. You can find the same information on the Internet for free - try the SBA website. This provides a nice structure for analysis outside those cookie-cutter books.

Too much focus on big business:Not the best for small firms
This was the second assigned test for a course in small business development and planning. It seemed to be more for intrapreneuers, entrepeneurs working within large businessesthan small business owners. I do not think many will consider this an enjoyable road test. The author gives countless examples of practices that both failed and succeeded inlarge corporate setting. Yet, how does one use the same practices in sole proprietorshipsor small partnerships? There are some good books on developing small business plans.Entrepreneurs might better start with a few basic chapters in Introduction to Businesscourse books. This book might be valuable for some, especially intrapreneurs andexecutives at larger firms. It is slow reading. I bought this from Amazon. Manyother book stores do not have it

If you're planning on writing a biz plan buy this FIRST
If you're looking for a book to help you develop not only a business plan but an entire business strategy for your start-up you've found the right one. Mullins will help you figure out if you're heading down the right patch and how to fix it if you're not. You'll get tips on how to conduct surveys, what information to gather, what investors such as VCs and Angel investors are looking for, and how to write a business plan. Probably the most useful info you'll get from the book is a realistic picture of what kind of info and thinking it takes to get your business off the ground. Once you have that it'll be up to you if you still have what it takes to get your business funded or off the ground...Mullins can only be your guide.

Well crafted principles, but I doubt anyone reads it cover-to-cover
Mullins knows what he is talking about, and this book shares his points very clearly. I found the message to be overly repetitive, I would encourage skimming or glancing over (which I seldom suggest). Though it might be better to just start working on your company than reading this book (opportunity cost wise at least), the examples presented were enlightening and enhanced my understanding of successful business actions.

A must have
Bought the first one and wanted to stay up to date. Very insightful and if you are serious on making a successful business plan that leads to a successful business and income, you'll need this over anything else. You have been warned, haha. Seriously, it brings up questions that one tends to avoid when doing a business plan or figuring out a different approach to an existing business/industry that will lead one to succeed.

Very useful
Now that Lean Start Up is the main tendency in start-up strategy, this book is a fantastic complement with a different point of view of what to do with your project even before writing a business plan.
