The Jet Engine

I got the book because of a comment mentioned on a tech blog. I like the many diagrams and detailed explanations of the jet engines, though I don't understand them all. I like the technical diagrams and little blurbs on components of the engines and relations of different gas or air streams. It'll take a while for me to thoroughly digest all the technical stuff.

The thing that I like this book is that as a mechanical engineer. All of the math equation in the book describes the fundamental concepts of the jet's thrust,etc. However, it does not into intense thermodynamics and fluid dynamics equation, etc. I think that this book is created for everyone so there are some easy math formula where it is possible to solve for the propulsive efficiency, force, etc. The thing that the book is great at is to explain the concepts of jet engine and challenges that it could face during the development. The dislike is that the book has not been updated for such a long time. Preferably if the newer updated version would come out, I would not mind buying it again.

This book was made by the manufacturer of jet engine. So, not so much theoretical, but with more facts and vivid images.

This is a beautiful book. Fantastic cutaways. I wish it were updated to 2020 with new developments (geared fan jets; electric drives). But great as is, with excellent text explanations of jet functioning and all engine components.

Love this book - last copy I had was stolen (!) - I guess that was a compliment ... highly recommend.

I like this book. Good introduction and great pictures. Not as technical as Gunston, but the Gunston book doesn’t have the pictures and colors this one does. On the other hand the Gunston book has a nice history section at the back.

I like the content as expected. No complicated mathematics are involved. Plenty of nice photos are showed professionally.
