Great flashlight at a great price
This flashlight worked like a charm. I bought this light to hunt scorpions as I am trying to reduce how many I find in and around my house. And it works great! Found one dead one inside and one live one outside on the first night. They glowed a bright green. It even worked in lit areas (it obviously works better in the dark, but works amazingly well under 65 watt motion sensing spot lights). It also worked great picking up pet/small children accident areas. While looking for scorpions I unfortunately found a number of places where I need to do some carpet cleaning :).For those that have claimed the light is not bright enough or it does not detect urine on carpets and other surfaces, I truly am at a loss. Unless the same unit is not being shipped each time this is a great product. I was detecting pet accident areas while holding the flashlight in a natural position and shining the light a good 3-5 feet ahead of me. It also did not need to be in total darkness though it does work best when you are. Here's hoping this product lasts a while.

finds urine easily. Great little blacklight.
I have 3 male dogs and I suspected one or all of them were marking their territory in my downstairs area but I didn't know where so I figured I'd try a black light and see if I could find out where they were peeing. I bought this flashlight because it wasn't expensive and honestly, I didn't expect it to work so I didn't want to lay out a lot of money. It works great. I didn't have to bend down or crawl on my knees. I just walked and aimed the light at the floor and on corners of furniture and found the areas where they had marked. The flash light itself is pretty small but the area it lights up is large enough so you can do a large room in no time at all.It works good and the price was great. It doesn't come with batteries.Just for the heck of it I tried it out in my bathroom and aimed it around what looked like a clean toilet bowl.. yuck, somebody is missing the bowl...and it's not the dogs.

Works for me!
For me, this product was chosen based on other reviews. It was not too expensive, but seemed to be a middle of the line price bracket. I had read other reviews complaining about not being able to use it in the light, but what flashlight works in daylight? It worked somewhat in dim light, but when I kept the room dark, the problem areas showed up clearly. As others have warned, it will show lots of spots - anything organic glows. Could be spilled food, small throw-ups, a spot of drool, etc. It is solid and heavy. I am glad I bought it and use it every few days to make sure my cat is not reverting to old habits!

Fun, Useful, Affordable, Reliable
Fun to play with, useful around the house for spotting invisible spills, somewhat useful for medical purposes. We've found little things we dropped on the carpet by using this in a somewhat darkened room, and all foreign objects stand out strongly. Also great for finding places that need cleaning, not just on floors but walls too. The light is plenty strong enough, yet with a wide enough coverage field that you can scan an area of floor holding it at arm's length while walking. It's mostly visible light on the UV end, but who has the true UV cameras to use for that spectrum? Some true UV is converted by some organics (bacteria, etc.) to visible light, so that and the advantage of emphasizing near UV visible light is what makes it useful around the house. We've had it for many months now, and it's still going strong on the first set of batteries with our occasional use.

395 nm or higher NOT for mineral hunting
I wanted a black light to see the luminescence in crystals and minerals. I should have paid attention to the review of whO "Shock" (January 8, 2010). He was exactly right that 395 nm UV emits too much white light and is close to useless. Even in complete darkness, this did not work at all.The product description includes "mineral hunting." This is misleading as I tried this light on all of my minerals and stones and it was completely useless. The quality of this little flashlight is great -- bright light, sturdy construction, and I will take it camping. So, three stars for misleading description about minerals.I was trying to get something small and inexpensive because it was for my hobby. As usual, you get what you pay for. This may be fine for proteins or scorpion hunting, but for my purposes, I will be looking for 375 nm or lower.

Great for Scorpions
I purchased this to do a blacklight hunt of scorpions for my rental property in Phoenix, AZ. I did some research before my purchase regarding the wavelength of the blacklight. The concern is that if some visible light from 395 nm ones will bother scorpion to make them flee, and if fluorescence of scorpion at 395 is good enough. The information was controdicting and also many reviews on other applications such as minerals, stains. Then I found two papers about the excitation wavelength of the fluorophore from Bark scorpion, and about how scorpion reacts to light (I am a science major). They showed that 395 nm is only 15% weaker than 375 nm, and is the same as 350 nm in terms of excitation. Plus it is much cheaper. So I bought two 395 nm flashlight. One for tenant, and one for myself. When i did the blacklight hunt after receiving it, it worked great! I caught 13 scorpions in the backyard. The light doesn't cause them to move at all, a little visible make aiming easier, and they showed up easily over 6 feet away. Highly recommend for scorpion hunt.
