Size:5-(Pack) This Alemite 555-E pistol grip grease gun, which comes with a flexible extension, has a cylinder capacity of 16 oz., and delivers lubricant at pressures up to 7,500 pounds per square inch (psi) at a rate of 1 oz. per 30 strokes in high-volume mode. A dual mode, pistol grip lever mechanism makes it possible to choose either high-volume output or high-pressure delivery. This grease gun loads grease either by bulk loading or inserting a grease cartridge. The follower has a heavy-duty spring to keep the grease gun primed, and a bleeder valve keeps the grease gun from building up excessive pressure in the cylinder. This grease gun injects grease into standard grease fittings and is suitable for applications such as lubricating motor vehicles, construction and industrial equipment, and aeronautics. Oil and grease guns are handheld tools that inject lubricant (dispensed from the barrel or cylinder cartridge) into metal mechanical assemblies. Electric and air-powered grease guns can dispense large volumes of lubricant in commercial applications, while battery-powered (cordless) grease guns are more suitable for mobile and remote applications. Manual grease guns (lever, pistol-grip, screw-type, push-type, and suction) vary in duty and have either a rigid or flexible hose extension for attaching nozzles or a nozzle with coupler for standard grease fittings. Oil and grease guns are used in a broad variety of applications including vehicles of all types, construction equipment, factory and agricultural machinery, and aeronautics, among others. Alemite manufactures lubrication and fluid handling systems and components. The company, founded in 1918, is headquartered in Fort Mill, SC.

Works great and well made
I used this grease gun for the first time last week, and am quite impressed with how well it's built and works. I'd anticipated that I might have to replace the coupler on the end of the hose since these are commonly not high quality, but the one it came with works quite well when it's properly aligned on the grease fitting. I'd have happily given it 5 stars, but the hose is only rated for a fraction of the pressure that this grease gun can generate when being used on its "pressure" setting. I wasn't sure if this was common, but I observed replacement hoses in the local auto parts store that were much more suitably rated and therefore IMHO could have been supplied with this gun for only a few dollars more.

I cannot recommend this product because there are grease guns of similar ...
Do not buy. It is not worth the extra cost. To begin with, I emailed the follow question to the Alemite Corporation before I purchased their product. "I am searching for a source to provide American made products such as grease guns and lube handling products. Where are Alemite tools and equipment manufactured?" Their answer was short and to the point. "Johnson City TN" So, I ordered a 555-E grease gun thinking that I would receive a quality USA made product. Yet, I did not. Instead I received a grease gun in a box marked "Designed in USA, Manufactured in China." Designed in USA, manufactured in China does not provide jobs for the American people. Instead, it provides wealth and for a communist government.Fact is, the gun is not worth the cost. The quality is mediocre and it's price is substantially higher than similar products. My old John Deere grease is close to 30 years-old but I seriously doubt the Alemite gun will last that long. Therefore, I cannot recommend this product because there are grease guns of similar or higher quality that cost much less.

Well-made and well worth the price—1 photo
I’ve used an Alemite lever-action for many years (made in USA stamped on the barrel). Best quality and easy cartridge replacement.I wanted a full-size pistol grip gun and bought the $33 Carbyne ‘Heavy Duty’ gun. What a mess. The flimsy rubber piston seal came off the piston with the first tube of greased used and most of the tube oozed past the piston and around the spring. You can see my review of the Carbyne here— https://www.amazon.com/gp/review/R3J8BCFVG8G9TZ?ref_=glimp_1rv_clThe review has 3 photos that show the Carbyne catastrophe.I then bought the Alemite pistol grip gun. The piston seal is about 3 times thicker and heavier than the Carbyne. The dual leverage, volume or pressure mode is useful. The photo shows 3 squirts. The top black strip is from the old Alemite lever-action.The middle red squirt is from the Alemite pistol-grip on the volume setting. Quantity looks to be 80 or 90 percent of the lever-action. A strong hand is required. The bottom red squirt is from the Alemite pistol-grip on the pressure setting. Quantity looks like about 5 squirts are required to equal the volume setting. Easy squeezin’ on the pressure setting.Yeah, the Alemite pistol grip is made in China. I don’t see any dimunition of quality from the made-in-USA Alemite.

Made in China
Made in China. Comes with a flex hose rated for 6900 lb when the gun is rated for 7500 lb. This doesnt make sense. I'd read that these were still made in TN but it definitely is not. I rated 3 stars due to the price of $57.18 being too high for a Chinese made, imported grease gun.

Finally, a grease gun worth owning
I'm a retired engineer that has lived on a hobby farm for over 30 years. Greasing tractors and implements are a part of life. I've been buying the low-bid junk grease guns that auto parts and farm supply stores stock and have bought too many of them since they don't last more than a couple of years. So I asked on an internet forum "what is a really good grease gun?" and this was what was recommended. It cost a lot more than the cheap, disposable junk I was using and is worth every penny and then some. The selectable "volume" or "pressure" toggle is really handy for filling a new bearing chamber with the initial fill of grease, or pushing grease into a stubborn Zerk fitting that doesn't want to flow. The spring-loaded rubber plunger that pushes grease up to the pump head doesn't leak grease around the seal (which means you'll throw away what's left of a perfectly good tube of grease), and the pistol-grip pump makes short work of lubing since I didn't get that third hand none of us were born with.Buy the Lock 'n' Lube adapter from another vendor on Amazon and put it on the end of the hose. It has a depressable thumb lever to lock and unlock the adapter onto the grease fitting. If the Zerk fitting is so clogged that it just just won't budge, it will not hydro-lock the adapter on to the stuck grease fitting. It was about $30 and has prevented the bellowing of thousands of cuss words. The Alemite gun with the Lock 'n' Lube adapter makes for the perfect combination and the neighbors will think you're Superman.

Didn't work for me- got an inoperative sample.
Thought I'd pay extra to get a nice grease gun, but got a faulty unit that would not prime no matter how much I coaxed it along. Pushed and pulled the follower, hit the bleed vent until grease spewed forth from it, but pump as I may, not even a dribble of grease came out, without the hose connected, even.I tried packing the head full of grease manually to make sure there were no pockets of air, and made sure the spring was pushing on the grease in the tube, but still nothing at all.Tediously cleaned out the grease and sent it back where it came.

Alemite = good; Lincoln = better
I really wanted to like this grease gun. But the sad fact is that the comparable Lincoln grease gun is just made better. That, typically wouldnt bother me but the Lincoln gun is also way cheaper. Alemite needs to reevaluate their prices.
