Most famous pencil in Japan for good reason
The media could not be loaded. Tombow states that the 8900 is your basic HB pencil, available in 3 grades. This does not make complete sense to a literal reader. But I take it to mean, any of the 3 grades you select HB, B or 2B will deliver a standard, quality graphite (and has been delivering since 1913 at that!)This is a terrific pencil with archival packaging. No two which ways about it. Strong and centered core, great point retention, lightweight, the hexagonal barrel feels a bit uncomfortable after a while. It would not be my pencil were a writer. Round barrel only, thank you.If you are American and like a built in eraser, let me warn you against that hack now. It throws the whole pencil off balance. You either need to use a handheld eraser or check out the Tombow 2558 with ferrule and built-in eraser.Run don’t walk to add this pencil legend to your cart. you won’t be sorry.

Very fine pencils
I am very glad with these pencils, they write very smoothly and the wood is hard enough.

Excellent everyday pencils
Excellent everyday pencils, especially for the price (got mine for $5.59 for a pack of 12). I really like how smoothly the 2B graphite goes on with little pressure to produce a relatively dark grey line. The pencils sharpen easily and the graphite erases cleanly. The cedar wood barrel and the olive enamel finish looks and feels good. The lack of an eraser doesn't bother me because I usually put white hi-polymer pencil cap erasers on my pencils. These are nice, high-quality, everyday pencils at an affordable price. I would buy more as needed. Highly recommended.

Great dark marking perfect for sheet music.
Beautiful feel and visibility for sheet music marking. But requires a good bit of effort to erase. The only better product I’be found for this purpose is he Pacific Music Writer, which is much more expensive. These pencils are a better deal.

My new favorite pencil
These are all-around great pencils. Easy to sharpen, hold a point decently well, feel great in hand, and they're relatively cheap compared to some other options. Definitely recommend these to anyone on the fence or looking for a great quality pencil.

Pick your darkness
These pencils are 2B which is on the black and soft side of the pencil hardness/darkness scale. It’s about the softest, blackest pencil you can still easily use for normal writing. The pencil hardness scale:SOFTEST/BLACKEST 9B,8B,7B,6B,5B,4B,3B,2B B HB F H 2H,3H,4H,5H,6H,7H,8H,9H HARDEST/LIGHTESTIf you went down to a 9B it would be a jet-black mushy grease pencil for artists. Like an eye pencil for lady’s (or clowns) makeup. There are options to select on this order “2B” or “B” or “HB”. If you want a dark, yet hard pencil then get the “HB”.If really like the 2B, but what I’m doing is sort of weird. I take scrap brown shipping paper (I work in a library and we get tons of books delivered and they’re packed with this stuff). A “normal” pencil barely is visible on this dark brown paper. So I use the 2B, which shows up great. I have to sharpen this pencil way more often than a normal pencil, but I use a pen(cil) pocket knife, which puts a much better point on it (for these weird purposes). This brown paper feels similar to a grocery bag, so it almost is like sandpapery and dulls any pencil faster.I got the idea from an old episode of Columbo, where he uses a woman’s eyeliner pencil to write a note. The box these come in is very nice looking too. Almost like an old cigar box design.

You can't go wrong with these!
Wonderful pencils. Bought a box from Amazon and then bought two more as soon as I had an order to add on to. I love these pencils. They are very similar to the Mitsubishi 8950, although very slightly lighter and very very slightly less smooth. However, the point on this pencil lasts a lot longer. This is probably the best 50 cent pencil I've ever used. In fact, take out the probably. It's a great writing instrument. I've always been a pen guy, but pencils like this are really nice to use. I have carpal tunnel and the quality as well as light weight of the pencil with no eraser makes this as easy in my hand as a pen.

It changes my view about pencils.
I really like these pencils. 2B is way better HB to me. No longer need to hard press a pencil to have clear, dark letters. As a result, easy to erase and no pencil grooves left. I didn't know much about different types of pencils because HB pencils are everywhere (every Walmart and Target I've been to). Really wonder why HB is used as a standard pencil for schools. Anyway, if you are using HB, please have a try with 2B. It would change your life for the better.
