The folks that have given this book a great review must be friends of the authors
The folks that have given this book a great review must be friends of the authors. This book is riddled with typos and errors, misleading steps and right out incorrect information (they even have misspelled features and properties of the product). I have had to google resolutions to find alternative solutions to their exercises. Almost every single recipe has a problem, does not work as they say and there is no errata nor do they reply to the support emails they offer. The only good thing I could say about the book is that it makes you work. It makes you work hard at learning the product because the book just gives you an idea it doesn't give you the proper steps as it is supposed to. DO NOT BELIEVE the rave reviews. If you are going to purchase it be ready to figure out a lot of stuff on your own.

Great Recipe Book
I've worked through the first 9 chapters and was able to get all but one recipe to work. The one that didn't had to do with monitoring a folder for changes (like a new file appearing so that it could be processed). I used the author's code for that and still no luck, so that one requires some research and was not worth spending additional time on. Overall, I thought the recipes were a very good representation of what SSIS can do. I've been using DTS/SSIS since SQL 7, and I learned some things that made this book a wise investment. The editing could be better, but such is the case with most technical books. Also, while the instructions were usually quite direct and to the point, there was some repetition in the steps, the creation of connections in particular. For those two reasons, I give it only 4 instead of 5 stars, but this is a good book to have for anyone starting out with SSIS or someone who has used SSIS for some things but is not familiar with all the components and wants to pick up some pointers.

A terrific book
I am a newcomer to SSIS having helped build only a small routine to move data between two SQL databases using SSMS. I just bought this book and have only progressed through the first few chapters but all I can say is WOW! I am currently taking a Microsoft sponsored online course which is terrific and this book covers some of the same ground but really fills in the gaps. I really liked the way it starts with using Import/Export to build your understanding of how packages are built in VS. It is hand holding but that is what I need. The steps are thoughtfully laid out and supported with great screen shots for every step. If this continues I know I'll have a great deal of expertise by the time I finish the book. Yes there were a couple of small typos so far but nothing you can't figure out. And when the authors tell me to download MySQL it'll be another feather in my ETL cap, I won't complain!

Great overiew with good examples.
It is a really good book of examples of the features of the related product. If are looking for a book to study for the MS exam 70-463, this should not be your primary reference. It does not get deep enough into certain subject matters covered on the exam. It does, however, serve the purpose of covering the 2012 SSIS subject matter. Make sure that you have the necessary equipment and software to run the examples in the book. This is, after all, a tutorial cookbook that you will need to do the examples in order to get the full benefit of the book.

Just what I needed.
I bought this as a Kindle book. The price was right and the book met my needs. The book is readable on the KIndle. It is not too dry, and you can make good sense of the processes even if you are not actually doing the exercises. The book is perfect at explaining what you can actually do with SSIS.

Great for lab practice scenarios
Anyone trying to learn SSIS should get this book. The lab scenarios are complex and take time to work through, but worth it.

Decent book with one major annoyance
Why would anyone write a book on MS SQL 2012 SSIS that requires the reader to install and use MySQL?This is not to slam mySQL. It is just that many of the examples in the book forces me to install mysql as a prerequisite.Would anyone write a book on mysql that forces the reader to install MS SQL 2012 to test MySQL's features? I don't think so. I think it would've been far more appropriate to write a chapter or two that involves SSIS and MySQL.Many of the examples that doesn't require the installation of MySQL are just fine.Pros:1)Great Examples and explanations2)Great book if you want to understand how SSIS interoperates with MySQL.Cons:1)Many of the examples require you to install MySQL to test how SSIS can transfer data from different databases. For those who are not so inclined, you might be wasting your money by purchasing this book.

Waste of time and it's stupid to publish the book ...
It was minor errors in ch2 and ch3 but the author was able to help me on that.
