Pratt Read Corporation 82341-HT MM 3-Inch Round Screw Starter

I ordered this Pratt Read 82341-HT MM screw starter, but for some reason Amazon actually sent a Master Mechanic brand screw starter instead. I guess that is what the "MM" in the product title stands for since the Master Mechanic tool is also made in the USA by Pratt Read. The MM screw starter handle is a little different from the one pictured above, but the shank is made from good quality steel and has worked well for me starting holes in hard wood for the #4, #6 and #8 flat head screws I've been using it for, so overall, even though it wasn’t the exact one I ordered, I'm happy with it and would still recommend.

This tool works okay but it’s not made of a quality metal and does not easily start a hole. The older one I had was a hardened steel that made the hole with little effort but this tool does not. I have searched but have not found anything like the ones that used to be available.

I'm very pleased with Pratt Read this product. It has taken several months of going to different tool supply stores before I gave up,and went on line/ I will check with them first from now on

This very useful tool is impossible to find in the stores. You may not need it often but when you do it's well worth the small price.

The screw head widens too fast. It should be thinner and the threads cut deeper

This is just what I needed to start screws for various repairs and picture hanging in my home!
