It writes very dark. The lead does not break.
I like the length of this mechanical pencil. It feels like a wooden pencil. The #2HB lead writes darker. The lead does not break, because of the shock absorber system built into it. I use it for journaling. I carry two in my shirt pocket. The second one is a spare.

The only pencils I use.....
I ordered these online because they are the best.....not all stores carry them now. They do not break as easily as other brands. I own MANY of these!

This pencil ruined my life
I bought these thinking the reviewers were being over-dramatic, but I realized that this new product is far inferior to the classic mechanical pencil that we all know and love.Papermate updated the pencil to be lighter, cheaper, and worse all around. The weight is off. The color of the pencil is off. The darkness of the graphite is way lighter on paper. The eraser on the new one is dry, brittle, and smudgy. They’ve ruined this product. Do not buy. i would recommend visiting your local office supply store in hopes that they have the older models still in stock. The office I work at has some older models so I’ve rummaged that place for as many as I could find. What has the world come to?

I LOVE this pencil!
My favorite pencils by far! I use them myself for all of my classes when I am taking notes, and I'm using them with my 5 year old as well. He loved breaking the tip of other pencils because it would mean breaking out the pencil sharpener - an a reprieve from having to write for at least a little bit. These have made working with him easier too. Great product, and fast delivery from the company.

Keeps Its Point Without Sharpening - Eraser Works
The media could not be loaded. This set of five Paper Mate Sharpwriter mechanical pencils are a HB #2 darkness in a 0.7mm size. I've tended to use traditional pencils for my artwork over the years. Only recently have several artists convinced me to try mechanical pencils instead.I find these give a nice range of pressure options from heavy to light, creating a lighter or a darker line. I did some tests on sketch paper and the range was quite useful for my projects. Also, I was impressed that the pink eraser heads actually worked. With so many pencils, the pink eraser on top is decorative and makes an absolute mess of the paper. These erasers actually do their job in a reasonable fashion. These work quite well for my purposes. My only caveat is that I think holding the hard plastic for hours would start to hurt my fingers. I'll probably end up getting a soft jacket for them.Well recommended.

The only durable mechanical pencil
It looks as though the makers of this great pencil, in devising a bright yellow plastic-cased mechanical near-replica, is tapping in on our American romance with the yellow #2 wooden lead pencil made by a variety of manufacturers. This connection is clever and reassuring, but the real wonder of this mechanical pencil is that is works -- works now and months from now -- and boasts a good-sized eraser. Don't be fooled by slimmer, new-fangled imitators!
