While label bosses Gamble and Huff were responsible for writing and producing most of the Year 2000, My Favorite Person features writing and production by The O'Jays themselves, in league with McFadden & Whitehead and Cecil Womack. Once again, a collector's dream.
After purchasing So Full of Love/Identify Yourself, buying this CD was a no-brainer. Again, two very outstanding albums on a single CD. Some of the O'jays best vocals and arrangement. Buying these two CDs was a real bargain, in my opinion.

By the time these 2 albums were released the guaranteed top 10 hits had dried up but the quality of material was still strong as were the performances. An excellent value double set from the later part of their career. If you love the Philly sound and only the know the O'Jays biggest hits then you will love this

Die O'Jays immer noch in Top-Form
Die O'Jays kann man sicher zu den langlebigsten Acts auf dem Label Philadelphia International zählen. Dieses Set beginnt mit dem Album THE YEAR 2000 von 1980. Vom Titelsong abgesehen eine sehr balladenlastige Angelegenheit, größtenteils arrangiert von John R. Faith. Besonders hevorzuheben sind das motivierende "You Won't Fail" sowie "You'll Never Know (All There Is To Know 'Bout My Love)" mit fast schon klassisch anmutenden Streichern im Intro oder die Schlussnummer "Once Is Not Enough" mit herrlich schwülstigem Saxophon. Alles in allem ein richtig starkes Album, vor allem weil man ihm die 80er noch nicht oder kaum anhört.Weiter geht's dann mit MY FAVORITE PERSON von 1982. Ein Album, dem man die 80er schon deutlicher anhört. Man könnte das Ganze vielleicht als eine Mischung von Soft-Funk und Soul-Balladen bezeichnen. Ein Highlight von den Balladen ist "Your Body's Here With Me (But Your Mind's On The Other Side Of Town)" - ein Stück, das noch am ehesten an das vorherige Album erinnert. Mit leichten Abstrichen sind aber auch die restlichen Songs durchaus genießbar, wenn auch vom Sound her anfangs etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig.
