Good rack, but a few little things...
I did a lot of research before deciding to buy this rack. It weighs less than other similar racks, but is built well. I also bought an extension, which also weighs less than competitors'. Overall, it is sturdy, and there is a very little sway. The reasons for a 4-star review:- the screw that holds the pin tether broke off after several weeks of use - should be made of metal, instead of plastic;- the metal pin is difficult to push back in after rack is folded back up;- the red lever is very difficult to pull out for folding the rack back up;- loading a bike onto the rack isn't very easy - if you put the arm up, you can't place the bike on the rack as it gets in the way, but you can't leave it folded either - so basically, you are holding a bike upright in the cradles, while at the same time are maneuvering the arm and trying to lock it upright.Hopefully, the company will make some design improvements based on these suggestions, as I am sure I am not the only one with these issues.

Well planned out and sturdy rack.
Forethought by Yakima shows in this bike rack. The rack can tilt toward the ground to allow you into the back of the vehicle (best if done without bikes loaded as that makes the rack heavier to lift again). The bike tire "cradles" are adjustable and the slot for the tire strap on the cradle help keep the strap out of the way until you need it -- an excellent touch. I can definitely see the strap being a pain to deal with if it is constantly laying over the cradle. Not only do the rack stantions pivot down for easy storage of the rack but the hooks that hold the bike frames in place also pivot on the stantion so the hook stays out of the way when loading bikes -- another example of how Yakima really thought this through. You can also take the farthest two bike frame holders off so you don't have to deal with the entirety of the 4-bike rack when you don't need to. I also appreciate the ability to lift the entire rack up against the vehicle after taking the bikes off so it doesn't stick out into traffic when the car is parked, etc. This bike rack has been on two long road trips and has held up very well. We have been very happy with it. Lastly, a couple pointers on using this rack. First, you get a strong rack with this so you are also getting a heavier rack. This rack with all 4 bike cradles is a bit awkward to move into the garage after taking it off the vehicle but is absolutely doable. Lock the rack in the upright position before taking it out of the trailer hitch and you'll be better off. Second, spend the time setting your bikes on the rack and adjusting the cradles and frame hooks -- then remember in which order the bikes go on (closest to the vehicle first) and which direction each faces. This will save you some time putting bikes on the rack and taking them off again when one doesn't fit where you thought it went. Overall an excellent product, haven't second-guessed this purchase at all.

Nice Bike Rack, needs a Few Minor Tweeks
Received this rack yesterday, some details about the Bike Rack and Initial Thoughts.Un-Boxing was a process, Big Box and Heavy really a 2 folk job, I did it alone.I decided to set this up in the Garage as a preempt to using it for the first time.Again this Rack is Heavy, add four 25-30+lb Bikes and you've got 175+ lbs on the rear of whatever you drive.Set-Up is really NOT a breeze, we all ride Mtn Bikes, but one is a Med 26er, a Sm 26er, and a Med 29er, setting up location for each bike canbe time consuming, the 29er assume's the first spot, the Sm 26 next and the Med 26er on the outside, I found you need to stagger the bikes so they aren't hanging up on each other doing damage. Most Hitches are of the 2" type for the most part nowadays, my Ford F350 has the newer Class V but has the insert to accommodate the smaller receiver.I''l mention this again, this is a heavy hitch when all parts are assembled, if Yakima had thought some about it they could have given the option to pin the second piece rather than bolt it so the Hitch can easily be used as a double and making the process lighter to assemble on your vehicle, slide the second piece into the sleeve on the first and slide a locking pin(Think Hitch Pin) rather than a bolt to hold them together, I will search out a pin and use this method for attaching both the pieces to the Hitch Sleeve. I see this a logical step as this is nothing more than how the Hitch Sleeve is held in place when I tow equipment. As for quality, I see little difference between the quality of this rack versus the hanging Thule rack I'll be selling soon, if folks are unhappy with the quality I'm missing what's not so great. I'd say both the Thule and Yakima are decent products and both are well made, and Heavy, as for ease of use, I think once setup I'll take the Platform Style over the Hanging any day, at least the Thule version I own. Something is dis concerning having my 2000 dollar plus bikes dangling and bouncing down the road with little to keep them in place vs the bikes in place wheels locked in and bar securing the bike in it's slot, yea much better and easier with some slight mod's.

decent bike rack
it comes with a locking hitch screw which was nice it's more a deterrent don't expect it to hold up. The platform to hold the bikes is sturdy. the bars that stand straight up are a bit wobbly for my liking. they do rock while driving but are still secure. I would have liked for the hooks that come down on the cross bar of the bikes to be able to swap direction. It's a jig saw trying to figure out how to get all the bikes to fit. We have put four full sized mountain bikes on the bike rack and fit them just needed a bit of moving around the wheel bases and which directions the bikes needed to go. I also, bought a hitch stabilizer to prevent the bike rack from rocking in the car hitch. I would suggest getting one as well.I'd probably buy this again if I needed to replace the bike rack for some reason.

Awesome, but missing small part
Awesome rack, surprised on the quality for the price. Only bummer is that it was missing as piece. Got in contact with Yakima and still haven't heard back 2 weeks later. It's a small five dollar part so I'm not freaking out, but would be nice to hear back from Yakima at least. Still recommend, quality is just as good as racks twice the price

Good rack, only drawback being access to a hatchback
I bought this rack to make it easier to haul the family’s bikes around. It can accommodate both women’s and children’s bikes without adapters. It’s also easy to load because the trays are close to the ground. My only complaint about the rack is that it’s a pain to access my minivan tailgate when it’s installed on the hitch. You have to pull the safety pin, unfold the rack, and then navigate over the deployed rack. Still, it beats trying to fit 2 adult and 2 kid sized bikes in the back of the same minivan!

Excellent rack although heavy
Excellent rack although heavy. But the rack can be broken down to just a two-bike rack, meaning half the weight. If the full rack is too heavy to load for you, load it as a two-bike rack and then attach the second piece. All it takes is a wrench to tighten the bolts. Bikes ride smoothly with no rubbing or scratching. Very easy to load even when adjusting the trays to fit different bikes. Does not affect the vehicle handling, except you must remember it is now 6' longer. And amazingly, it does hold four bikes, both full size adult and/or children's bikes, unlike many racks claiming to carry four but only handling three adult bikes and letting them rub. The order was delivered quickly with no hickups. The only small negative for me is that you have to secure the bikes with a separate cable and lock which is easy to do.

Great rack, even for the price.
This rack is fantastic. So easy to use. Both me and my wife are able to easily get bikes on and off. And it’s so quick. No fiddling around with bungee cord like straps or trying to hook them onto the cleats. Just two straps through the wheels and a hook that clamps down on the crossbar and you’re done. It’s expensive, but SO worth the money.
