Dick Allen, The Life and Times of a Baseball Immortal: An Illustrated Biography

A Worthy Addition to Anyone's Baseball Library
I enjoyed the recent biography on Dick Allen and this one by author William Kashkatus also rates a five star rating. Controversy followed Allen throughout his career due to his often following his own drummer. His initial years spent in Philadelphia being the most difficult where sportswriter Jim Murray once wrote the fans in Philly would boo a cure for cancer. One year stops in St. Louis and Los Angeles was followed by a three year stint with the White Sox and manager Chuck Tanner before ending his career with another stop with the Phillies.Difficulties came with Ron Santo who was acquired by the Pale Hose but Allen taught Sox pitcher Rich "Goose" Gossage how to pitch from a hitters' perspective. He also became a tutor for the likes of Mike Schmidt and other members of the Phillies. A player's reputation once made is difficult to overcome and unfortunately Dick Allen's apparent shortcomings have overshadowed his contributions he made to several of his former teammates. The author makes his case for Allen's election to the Baseball Hall of Fame as others have done for other deserving former players. If you have read other biographies of Dick Allen I believe you will find this one to be beneficial to you as well. The book is spaced with photographs throughout the book. The book isn't a classic by any means and I'm sure it wasn't written with any attempt to be but it is a worthwhile addition to anyone's baseball library.

My favorite player of ALL TIME
My favorite player of ALL TIME ..I was 12 years old and living in Philadelphia Allen's rookie year, and followed him his entire career, on of the most feared power hitters of his era, Aaron , Mays, Reggie did not put the fear of God in you like Allen did when he came to the plate..Whenever his team played we called it "Richie then Dick Allen time "..The eye test says he should have been in a long time ago..probably half the players that have gone into "The Hall ' since he has been eligible were not as good as he was and would not even be in the conversation at the time, whatever happens with the Hall Dick Allen and Mickey Mantle were the greatest power hitter's I ever saw play... Koufax and Gibson the best pitchers I ever saw and best all round player I ever saw was was Roberto Clemente... Plus Mr. Allen was one "Cool Cat"

After a long wait, I finally got this book ...
After a long wait, I finally got this book. The wait is over and it was worth it. Another wait I hope will finally end is to get this man (Dick Allen) into the Baseball Hall of Fame. IMO, he deserves it. If you agree with me, and your on that social media site that starts with an "F", contact me, and I'll guide you to a site on Facebook pushing for Mr. Allen to be granted entrance to the HOF.
