RügenFisch Smoked Kieler Sprats, 3.88 Ounce

I have only eaten one other brand of smoked sprats:  Adro Riga Smoked Sprats, 5.6-Ounce (Pack of 12) .These fish are about twice the size of the Riga sprats. They are also less smokey. While good, I prefer the Riga sprats. These were more oily and I missed the depth of flavor provided in the Riga fish. I got two meals from the Riga sprats and one from the Kieler.

Latvian oak smoked sprats much better and half the price.

These had an odd taste and were pretty mushy. Bones clearly mixed in with the mush. I don’t think I’ll order these again.

These were decent. They had a good texture, easy to pick up with a fork. They were a tad bland though, tasting more like vegetable oil than anything with a slight hint of smokiness. I did not realize they still had bones in them, soft of course, but still bones. Maybe that was a goof on my part for not doing better research. I shared some with my cats and to my surprise unlike any canned fish I have given them, they were not all enthused. So maybe this is more of an acquired taste, even for cats.
