Love it so far!
We've been using this for a couple of weeks for our 7 month old- we have a thick ruggable and like it but it's not quite enough, and also collects crap easily. We also have a small Toki mat that's AWESOME but she rolls off it in seconds now. So we added this! I first read about Tribe West in a blog that reviewed their rubber and cork mats, and, looking for that natural option, found this listing on Amazon. It's not at all the same, but you can't beat OEKO-TEX materials. We wanted something we could also use as a family stretch mat after it wouldn't be a playmat anymore, and didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars when we already had a few cushiony items, so this fit the bill perfectly! I'd say on hardwood or tile, it wouldn't be sufficient for a falling baby, but on an area rug on top of a hard floor (we have plank vinyl) it's perfect. Rolls up well and re-flattens easily like a yoga mat. Nice texture- not super grippy but also not slippery. Our cat has clawed at it already (even though we shoo her away from it) and it doesn't have any noticeable markings. I definitely wouldn't wear shoes on top of this (who wears shoes in areas their babies play?!) but I imagine it wouldn't hurt it much if you did. Drool disappears on it without notable markings. Off-gassing was minimal and I'm super sensitive and careful about this. Will update if I have anything more to say!

My favorite play mat
I have gone through several play mats with my toddler and this one is my hands-down favorite. I was looking for something for our living room play area that would be easy to clean, wouldn't slip around on my wood floors, muffle the sounds of crashing wooden toys for my neighbors that live below us and also still look good. This play mat checked all my boxes, especially the non-slip part of it!A lot of play mats that I had gone through were dangerously slippery even with a rug mat or tape underneath. The thick padded ones also have permanent curls on the sides that we have never been able to get rid of and pose a huge trip risk. Other ones (like those ones with squares that you piece together) had patterns that would vacuum off and my toddler was obsessed with taking them apart, rendering them a little useless. This one can be easily wiped clean with water (I just cleaned up some blueberry stains with just water and it tried perfectly!), vacuumed and also feels great against your feet, sort of a fabric feeling, not plastic. This mat is sort of like a massive yoga mat so the thickness isn't huge. It's roughly the same thickness as a nice yoga mat. But that's exactly what I needed for my purposes.

If you know what you're buying, it's amazing!
I love this product and would recommend it to people looking for a slight amount of cushioning on hard floors for their babies. This product is different than foam play mats because it's very thin. But the advantage this mat has is the thinness! You can leave it out all the time and vacuum over it. Also, since it's not foam with a design printed on top, it won't be ruined by pet claws. I think the quality of this play mat is incredible. No frayed edges, and the microfiber design doesn't peel off the rubber. Its only flaw is the smell.I've had this product now in my living room for a month. The rubber smell mostly dissipated, but you can still smell it when playing with your kids on it. It doesn't bother me, since it's natural rubber and NOT chemicals (as some other reviewers have suggested). It's just something to keep in mind!If you are very bothered by smell, consider airing it out in your backyard or garage for a week or something before bringing it in.Overall, this product is just what I wanted. It cushions my baby's tumbles as she learns to crawl. It is aesthetically pleasing. It is durable in a household with pets and stands up to vacuuming. And it is easily rolled up for travel. If you are aware this product is NOT a thick, foam play mat and want something a bit more functional but not bulky, this is it!

we LOVE this mat
finally! a mat that isnt cheesy. we cant stand most baby products because they are odd colors or unnecessarily cheesy. this is a great mat. thought it would be small but its the PERFECT size. perfect.it cleans like i wished most other things would: with ease. you just take a towel (we use a washcloth) and rub out the water stains, baby food stains, etc. its as good as new in a minute. company is unreal and customer service is a dream.WORTH THE MONEY! wish i knew about this mat sooner. i have recommended to friend and family. such a good gift or self-purchase. can go outside as well. and it rolls up and fits in closet, etc. comes with a carry strap which is good (but we keep it out in our open living room/kitchen) because its so lovely. adds to our space.

best playmat!!
I'm obsessed with Tribe West products. They are well made, unique, beautiful, comfortable, and very easy to clean. I just purchased a second Tribe West mat... the only reason I ordered a new one is because I wanted to keep one in my car for outdoor adventures with the kids (beach, parks, etc) and one in the kids' play area in my home. The one I've had in my home for over two years is in perfect condition still and it gets a ton of usage every day. Every time someone comes to my home, they compliment the mat. Before I discovered this company, I had a basic foam puzzle mat for my kids which was a complete eyesore; the Tribe West mat is the complete opposite!

Quality has declined - Still a Good Product, but Price now too High
I bought this same mat in the "indigo shibori" pattern in October 2021 for $128, and I was so impressed with the quality, it was incredibly sturdy and really felt like a solid mat, and had a good weight to it! It wasn't slipping and sliding. I re-purchased this same product because I had a need for a second mat, and I'm pretty disappointed. It's super light weight and very apparent it isn't the same quality mat anymore, but now at a $40 higher price point than before. Inflation, I guess. At any rate, you can find just as good mats at much lower price points. I wouldn't buy a third time. Disappointing. Save your money.
