Boots and the Glass Mountain

This is a very nice fairy tale and one that I was not familiar with. As usual it involves a beautiful princess whose father is seeking a proper hero husband for her. And there are are familiar 3 brothers with the typical youngest being underestimated and not so well treated by his older siblings. Of course he wins out...and it is the way in which he does it that makes up[ the meat of the story. Gennady Spirin's illustrations are the major selling point of this story. It would be too long and involved without his beautifully detailed art work which can be revisited over and over again to find all of the minute details in the vividly colored full page plentiful spreads. Kids and adults alike will appreciate his fine work.

Was disappointed in quality. The dust jacket was of inferior quality and it was a former library book. There was a smudge on the edges that affected all the pages. I would not have ordered had I know it was a library book. Love the book though. Can't wait until I see Gennady again to have him sign it.

My two sons love this book; I'm so disappointed that it's out of print. It's well worth buying a used copy or hunting it down at your local library. With the help of three magical horses, Boots manages to do what no one else can - conquer the Glass Mountain and save the beautiful princess from a forced marriage to the King of the Trolls. The story is wonderful and engaging from start to finish, and the illustrations are stunning and have that classic fairy-tale feel. I highly recommend this book.

Boots and the Glass Mountain has the classic Cinderella plot but with a masculine twist. Horses, trolls, step-brothers and a glass mountain engage the reader beyond Cinderella and into a wonderful adventure story.
